It's in your manual.

Then use the Z1 ones in PDF form found online. For a "basic" top to bottom tune up, I'm sure that is close enough. I have yet to finding a PDF copy of the 77' KZ1000Wyliecoyote wrote: Don't have a manual Steve ,but any suggestions for a good one would be great? Thx

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThe best manuals are the Kawasaki Service Manuals (rather than Clymer, Haynes, etc.). Be sure to get one for your bike's exact year and model because there are differences. Also, make sure you know your bike's exact year and model before ordering. Some folks get confused as to the bike's year becasue the neck may be marked 11/1977 but the bike is actually a 1978 model.
This is listed as a 1976 KZ1000 manual, but since the KZ1000 wasn't introduced until the 1977 model year I suspect the seller is reading the date the manual was printed. The print date often precedes the model year. You can check with the seller to see what model is listed inside the manual.

What's the mileage (23,666)?
Is it running (yes)?
Any previous owner service records?
Has it been sitting?
Any noticeable problems?
Getting the Kaw Factory Service Manual (FSM) for your specific motorcycle is the very first thing you need to do.

I have three print copies of the original KZ1000a, FSM from Kawasaki.
The oldest one is dated June 11th, 1976 yes, 1976... I bought it during the spring of 1977 when I found out how much $$ the dealership wanted to do a FSM suggested 500 mile "new bike adjust and general check up"!! Hell no.
However, I misplaced it when I got married in very late 1978 and moved my wife with her stuff here.
I only recently discovered it. Still nice.... has the $7.95 price tag on it.
Nice condition with only a few of the typical greasy finger print smudges on the pages showing how to adjust the valve shims! LOL
I found another copy on eBay for around $22.00 with shipping early this spring!! Snagged it!
The newest print date one I have, I found at a dirt bike motorcycle shop during their "going out of business sale" around 20 years ago.
It is dated September, 6, 1977 has the supplement for the Z1R series ... I paid $12.00.
Bottom line is that they are not hard to find, just up to 5 times what the original $8.00 cost was.

Found a KZ shop manual for my 650 at a garage sale in my little town of 1,000 people for 5 bucks ....... former owner moved in from the big city and passed away so his wife sold it. ..... Bike and extra parts were gone.
1977-78 KZ1000 is my fav bike and what I would build/buy if I would'nt have thrown my live savings in on my 650. Who knows maybe I'll get a second wind someday but its not looking good.

It has been sitting according to seller it sat for 5 years and he got it cleaned carbs got it running (poorly) . I just got it a few days ago the fuel lines he had on there were about a foot long from petcock to carb, I cut them down to size giving the just a couple extra inches. It ran better after that but I'm going to go through the whole tune checklist just like Ido with any new project. I'm asking for a list for this specific bike because I know there's subtle differences from model to model and even year to year, plus I've never had a kz1000' had a 77 kz650 which is what was looking for when I ran into this one, So thanks for the advice I will be using all the recourses from this site manuals and asking a lot of Qs. Let the good times roll eh!
