Plenty of pictures on the web.
You must have been living in a cave if you have never heard of Wayne Gardner .

Don't forget the legend Crosby, John and Bill Crawfords (my Z1R was bought at the same time as theirs 1977 Dec), stop that I'm watering at the mouth

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

I said stock. My best friend Larry's built Exhibition Engineering 74 Z1a, would run away from us. He put $2000 in that bike and that was in 75. His family had money. Still he was a bum rider.

yes....but a lot of those are not from 77-78.
yes...all this bike come down to rider and not machine on a race.
back in 91...I had my 77kz1000A1 stock and a slipping clutch...an exchange student from Japan bout a Z1r. we race and I beat him by a few bikes. He than installed a 1105 kit came back to race me...by then I had replace clutch. and beat him again on the streets and Friday night races.
next time he came around he had a ZX1100 Ninga..ask me to race him...I said sure..let me call a friend. friend came over with a gsxr 1100 bored over to a 1350cc...Bike was Bret Turkington endurance race bike before he race for Yoshimura Suzuki.
Guess what...beat him again

I don’t remember much in the way of the Z1R being a popular choice as a roadrace bike. There were some 77/78 KZ1000A roadracers and a few 79 MKII, that were pretty cool. The 78/80 Z1R never had much interest in road racing. Of course there were lots of club racing around the country that I'm sure some guys ran them, but the AMA series and such, they never ran the Z1R. It was never known as a real great handling motorcycle even for its time.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
