So I'm going to look at a kz440 for sale. What should I look out for with this little guy? It is an LTD model without the wire rims. Too bad too cuz I love that look. Most of the 440 posts on here get ignored. Are there no 440 experts on here? I know about the kz400 website/forum.

Those little puppies are popping up everywhere. The LTD look is popular. Fix it up, sell it and buy what you really want.

Look out for poor maintenance and a missing air box and/or it's rear cover.

ya breaks don't work. New chain needed. New exhaust lol new battery ect. Pretty poor condition but I knew that going in. Had oil in it which surprised me. Turns over but no spark said the guy I bought it from. Replaced the coil and the advancer but not the 4 dollar spark plugs....not the sharpest tool in the shed. Came with the original tool kit which I thought was super fun.

Ya I looked at that. I think they added them. The other bolts seem undisturbed. They did strip every damn screw on it though. To think I know more than someone about kzs is crazy indeed. Plus I have no idea how to fix drum breaks so that will be an adventure. Might replace front and rear end just to avoid rebuilding a break system.

Clutch. The clutch may only need a basic adjustment. On the 440 I believe you're supposed to turn the clutch release adjusting screw counterclockwise first until hard to turn, then clockwise 1/4 turn.

Rr brake. ASBESTOS WARNING. The drum brake is pretty easy to work on, but don't breathe the dust & don't use compressed air. Replace the shoes --- Install oem or Vesrah (made in Japan) & use the proper grease only where required. Expect to sand the drum to remove the glazing.
