Z2 750 crank (Bossie the Kaw)

I do have an overhead rail that I can use to lift the engine but....

I take everything I can off the engine...head, barrels, side covers, clutch plates, etc. My objective is to make it light enough to lift by one person by hand. I have a work stand for the engine made of 2 by 4 that I slide next to the right side of the frame. Put some protection on the frame members to avoid paint scratches. I use the head studs as gripping points and lift the engine out and onto my work stand. I can then continue to dismantle the remaining pieces. Works fine for me but I'm a big strong guy.

Note: when you bend over the frame you can rest your body to save your back. The lifting is pretty much all with the arms.

Was hoping to do this when I installed the 1075 kit. The block isn't too heavy on it's own. Life doesn't always go as planned. I should have some help putting it back in. Today I'll split the cases, clean them up and install the new tranny. The center beam in the shop was meant for using a comealong but how to fasten it to the engine was something I hadn't figured out yet. More later. :whistle:

Piece of angle iron fastened in the center to the come-along with ratchet strap at each end to go around the motor should work.
Adjust the ratchet strap position to balance the load on the angle iron.
Loosen the ratchet strap on one side when the motor can rest on the frame as it goes in and reattach the ratchet strap, if needed, from the other side of the frame.

Good idea, I might just have to try that.

Not that I'm aware of, but there is an optional transmission with different gearing. But I just realized you pulled your kickshaft when you were dismantling the engine. The optional transmission doesn't allow use of a kickshaft so your tranny must be the standard model.

It was the shifting forks but I don't see what caused it.
