Very interesting and a well-supported explanation of how complex exhaust design is. I'd like to see how the requirements of silencing complicate the designer's task. It also brings some science to explain why just ripping out a baffle or taking a hacksaw to a system doesn't suddenly increase power and make the bike run better.
