78 1000 LTD - Kick Start only? was created by SOHWHAT
Hello all,
New to the forum and the KZ - long story short friend of mine gave me her old mans 1000 after he passed and want to fix it up - last time it was ridden was in 82 judging for sticker on licence plate - has about 6500 miles on it... Was wondering if I could make this thing a kick start only? Not sure if I want to leave stock or rat it out some...

Yeah you can, makes it a pain to start sometimes, gotta be in perfect tune.
Just have to take off the stator cover, the starter gear and remove the starter and put a freeze plug in the hole the starter was in. Not a great savings in weight, power or anything you only delete two wires or so. And if its stock i'd leave it that way

If you're thinking of not having to buy a battery forget it. You need one anyway for it to run right.

Is there some specific expectation of a benefit from removing the starter? Ed
