Guys, my 78 KZ1000A2 basket case does not have a seat. I looked on ebay but would not know it if I seen it. Can someone help me out? Are the LTD seats the same? Is my seat needed specific for an A2? Maybe someone on here has one for sale? I seen some that the rear kicks way up and don't like it. I'd kinda like a flat seat but if it has to have the rear kick up I can live with it.

The 77 and 78 A1 and A2 seat are the same except possible slight styling difference. Back in the day, guys would fit 77-80 KZ1000 LTD seats also on the A2. I can't guarantee that they fit as I would never want an LTD stepped seat then or now, but it was a popular mod.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I'm with Ron on this one. We have had both LTD seats and the flat (we always called them Lillypad seats). By far the Lillypad seats are the most comfortable and allow you to move around better for comfort and less fatigue, Did also have a Corbin Gunfighter that while it seemed rock hard was a pretty comfortable seat. Never really went too far on it although. In my opinion the flat lillypad wins hands down.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

My bike is the LTD and I never cared for the looks of the stepped seat. My bike came to me with the Corbin Gunfighter Solo(perfect condition) seat which I didn't care for that look either. I bought a repro KZ900 seat and it fits and works perfectly. It came with the hinges and latch already on.

You said before the rear of your frame is cut off, that presents a seat problem the stock seats for the 73-80 900/1000 are ALL designed for the ducktail. The back doesnt sit flat on the frame it curves over the tail fin

I'm going to build the tail back from scratch. Its got the first set of mounting tabs for the rear fender still there.

Good luck on that, should be 8 inches from the back of the plate to the other two bolts.

Gotta love when people cut on a bike and lose interest, took me three years to find a clean cheap project
