KZ750 as a 1st bike? was created by DesertKZ
I know I know, probably not the best idea. I have a great lead on a KZ750 here locally and I can have it for a very good price. My fiance has always wanted to learn to ride. Problem is, she's 5'10, and she looks big on most bikes so I'm hesitant to get her a bike she'll outgrow quickly. I've already decided to send her to the week long safety/riding course here in Phoenix (RideSmart). I don't think I could forgive myself if she got hurt due to the bike being too powerful.

People around here seem to think that their KZ650's are worth their weight in gold and I haven't seen a KZ400 or KZ550 in quite a while.

Thoughts? I learned to ride on a Ninja 250 and have owned everything from ZX7's to Ducati's and everything in between.

As far as the size of the 750, I see no problem there. Of course if the bike is in good condition and mechanically sound, it will make the experience a lot nicer for her. The riding course is the smartest thing to consider for beginners, IMO. In fact, here in Texas it's required. Hope y'all have fun with this. B)

My first bike is the 550 ltd. I was worried about buying it because everyone was telling me if i didn't start on a 250 I'd kill myself. As long as you take it easy and respect the bike I don't see a problem with a 750 as a beginner bike. I agree with KZErider. Itook my msf course at a local ccommunity college and it was the best 200 bucks I've ever spent.

These old 750's aren't sporting a ton of power, so she might be alright.....it really comes down to whether she can handle the weight of that size bike, not the power. IMHO

?????

That depends a LOT on which model KZ750 we're talking about. The 4 cylinder KZ750 made 78 hp and was very fast. It ran the 1/4 mile in 12.2 seconds, and had a top speed of 135 mph. That's a lot for a beginner. The twin made 55 hp and was quite a bit tamer than the 4 cylinder model. Ed

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to go ahead and get it, but she knows she's not allowed to ride it until she completes the course.

4 cylinder KZ750, more than fast enough for beginner as well as experienced rider.... ;)

Does your lady truly plan to ride faster than 60-80mph..... Naw....
Is she going to be red lining it off a stop light, Naw....
Is she planning on doing tripple digits....Naw....
Most likely not regardless of experience and time in the saddle...

If this KZ is in good shape, runs to spec, has been maintained then by all means, good for you guys/gals....

Hope to meet you guys for cooling temps here in Phoenix equates to riding time.... B)
