Winter maintenance on a daily rider? was created by isolatoi
Hi All,

I bought a KZ650 H2 a month ago and I've been fixing it up doing a lot of general fixes. It's currently my only vehicle going into the winter here in Reno (climate: below freezing nights and 50s in the day with drizzle/rain ~25% of the days; occasional snow which melts in 48 hours). I ride around 30 miles a day with a 100 mile every other week on average.

What would you guys do different from the recommended maintenance to keep this thing in tip top shape through the winter?

Thanks

If you're using anything heavier than 10W-40 motor oil now might be a good time to switch over. Anything heavier than 10W-40 will be slow to pump through small oil journals and passages when the engine is cold. You may want to check to air pressure in the tires on a weekly basis if you are not doing so now. Also, make sure the battery fluid level is correct. Ed
