Hey all,

I'm picking up a '83 GPz750 tomorrow to fix up and flip since I already have more bikes than I can ride at once.

It needs some work and a few parts thrown at it. I'm thinking I may be able to make about 30-40% profit on it if I keep it stock.

However, I really want to mod it a little. I'm thinking a simple front end swap (non-USD) and some more modern wheels and brakes. But I'd be spending another $400-500 to do so.

Would it be worth my time and effort to update the bike, ask a higher price and still make a decent profit?

Any money you spend changing the front end or making other modifications from stock will be a total loss. No one is going to pay extra for non-stock parts you put on it. I doubt that 1 out of 1,000 folks who have modified a bike recover their money. Keep in mind, that every mod is beautiful in the eyes of the guy who conceived the mod, but not necessarily in the eyes of a prospective buyer. Most guys who want a modded bike want to do their own mods, not buy something someone else has done; that is not as satisfying to them because it isn't "their" creation. Consequently, for every mod made more buyers are turned off from the bike than are turned on by the mod. Clean the bike up, replace any broken stuff with stock pieces, and flip it. Ed

+1 Ed. Unless your are a reputed bike builder and you know you can find that 1 in 1000 buyer I'd leave it as stock as possible.

Having flipped a couple of bikes and a few cars I'll agree that you are better off keeping the bike stock. It will appeal to a broader audience and that is what sells vehicles. I always focus on getting the mechanicals and ownership papers right as cheaply as possible if I am flipping.

If you're going to flip it... absolutely no question. Leave it stock. You will NOT get your money back.
