Ive got a old kerker on my gpz and for the price I don't think you can beat it.as for period correct pipe I think kerker is it.Im of age when we rode these bikes new, back then we ALL put kerker on our bikes.I did have to modify mine slightly to fit but
I think it looks pretty good.if I wanted to spend a lot of money I think I would get a nitro header from japan.hard to beat the howl of an old kerker.

I'm with you on the Kerker. I remember running those back in the day myself. Got one on this KZ1000, been running it without the baffle and I LOVE it like that. Music to my old ears.

I remember my MKII well - I put 51,000 miles on it in 6 years - KERKER all the way, and if you can find one of the old K-series pipes that lets you keep the centerstand, all the better.
My wife asked me if I still loved her - I said "Honey, I love you more than new carburetor boots ! "

Still looking and with Winter due any day that means I will have a few months to get my ducks in a row.
The Nitro pipe is at the top of my list but Eric mentioned a version of the Kerker that allows you to retain the center stand. That would be cool as while the weight loss would be nice I would like to keep the stand.
Anyone know more about such a pipe?
I worked in a Kawi shop in the late 70's - early 80's and know over half the big bikes I sold got headers put on them as everyone strived to make their bikes unique. The shop made out like bandits as they usually would only credit the owner a hundred bucks or so and most new owners were desperate to get rid of the stock systems. The shop would then put them the bikes that would come in on the hook of a wrecker on Monday and charge the insurance company.
Besides the Nitro pipe I am interested in the Racefit pipe. The owner in the UK asked me to contact him early October and he said he would give me a deal to get one of his pipes out here for people to see. I know a ton of vintage superbike fans and probably would sell him some pipes.
The titanium is soooo horny looking!
And its less than 6 and half pounds!

Decided to go with a new chrome Kerker. The original MKII had chrome pipes and the shape of the cannon on the stock pipes was not that dissimilar. The Nitro requires too many mods and is way too much money. The Legend pipe is nice and light but I think it looks a little too hi-tech for the look I am after.
Anyone know of a good spray coating for inside the pipes on a chrome kerker that reduces blueing on these pipes?

Soneone on here(he will chime in) said they sprayed the inside of the pipes from both ends good and heavy with some high heat spray paint I believe and the pipes haven't blued at all. Probably have to spray it heavy and rotate pipe letting it run down inside from one end and then from the other end.

You may want to contact the folks at the link below to pick their brains on the subject. They specialize in ceramic coatings including thermal barrier exhaust coatings, so I'm sure they can provide quality information. Ed
