Gearhead used a poor choice of nouns when describing the nationality of the manufacturers listed the the post before his. I do not imagine that he intended to insult any body with what he thought was a joke.

I deleted the post.

I'll also move this up to "Bike Related".

I'm glad you got your two bikes and have fun with them. Probably debatable what was the fastest bike in 1981, and what criteria is used for fast. If going by quarter mile runs, which was always my criteria, neither of those was the fastest of 1981. By 1981 I don't remember if the XS1100 was still sold as the standard model. If so it was fast, but not that fast. The cruiser style bikes like the specials yamaha sold, as well as the LTDs kawasaki sold were never as fast as the standard models. They were normally tuned for a lower top end power for some reason. By 1981 the Honda CBX was full dress, so no it was definately not that fast. Full dress CBX was a mid to high 12 second bike. The KZ1000LTD may have been in the 11s, but if so it was a 11.999.
I think in 1981 the two fastest quarter mile performers would have been the GPZ1100 and the Suzuki GS1100, both could run about 11.30s according to tests. I don't think any Ducati or other Euro bike could break the 12s. This is all 30yr old memorys, so I could be mistaken on some, but I believe it mostly true.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Both great bikes and I have HAD one of each. but sad to say the very next year 1982 HONDA came out with the VF750 MAGNA YES a 750cc advertised to have 79 HP @7500RPMs and turn the 1/4 in 12.3sec. about a bike length short of the XS1100cc @11.7 1/4 mile et with 95 HP.
So which would be considered best a 750cc with 79HP and 1/4 ET of 12.3 sec. or a 1100cc with 95 HP and a 1/4 ET of 11.7.

I'd almost bet you some 1100 riders got owned by a 750 at the track and was ashamed to admit it!!

You're going to love the pogo stick effect the 1100 give you when you chop the throttle ;)
