And like I said, if you know how to do it, getting a title isn't anything really. I got mine in a total of two hours. I've seen ads for nice bikes that were gettting parted, and after a few people got a piece or two each, I'd be a couple hundred into getting what I needed to put it back on the road, forbid any other issues of course.

Seems to me though, sometimes parting it out is because the owner doesn't want to take the $400 or so offer of what the bike is worth and would rather do that.
Does it get me hot to see people scrap these things out? yep... but my camaro was a parts car, and with a couple hundred hours into it, I patched and fixed everything and came up with a butt-kicking car. nobody believes that is what sat in the local wreckers for 25 years! now if I could only find a "parts only" kickstart 900/1000 I'd shock everyone I know again

Lets say Eddie has a 78 Kz that has sat for several years last time he rode it was probably 5 years ago but is all there and with a carb clean nice daily rider
he actually boughtt it new.
Now Eddie is a regular guy on his 2nd marriage has had some financial struggles but does ok. and through out his divorce managed to keep his KZ
He was laid off last year due to this awesome economy and lets face it some things have to go
wrenching on the neighbors cars arent paying the house payment or his child support. The current wife's modest income keeps em in cigarettes the lights on. but the forclosure letter says its time to part with the stuff heloves but dont use to keep the things he loves and uses. (Like House and staying out of jail for being a deadbeat dad)
He cant find the title to the bike but its nice and averyone says no problem man sell it with a bill of sale
He sells it to marvin for 1200.00 cleans the carbs and marvin rides off.
Marvin decides to put some paint tires and rebuild the shocks new cables 800.00 worth no problem
he has the DMV check the vehicle and they apply for a title and give him a license plate
Marvin decides hec ould get 4000.00 out of this nice 78 KZ so he decoies to sell it and notices
he has never received the title
Call the DMV they tell him to call the state the state gives hime the run around and finally he gets someone who will tell him where his title it
Eddie was behind on child suppoert so the state placed liens on all vehicles titeled in his name
The reason Marvin got to license it was it was a bill of sale transaction with no theft associated
with it.
All liens of the previous title are intact as the new title is issued or in marvins case ne title was held by the state for the lien.
now Marvin can continue to ride his motorcycle until Eddie pays his child support or sue Eddie to
get his 1200.00 bucks back and his improvements being his cost of aggrivation and eventually if Eddie doesnt turn to drugs and actually gets a jobs Marvin may recoupe his 1200.00
There are reasons outside of what we know for parting out completely decent motorcycles I know a guy that lost a lawsuit for being under insured they put liens on everything he still owned including 2 motorcycles ha had sold that were still showing in his name
Food for thought its a shame but its our burachracy that force honest prople to pursue grey areas to make abuck as someone put it
It is a shame that complete bikes are parted out as a business but very rarely do you see the frames with title listed amoung the parts aailable.

just don't see the seller making more parting out this very clean 900ltd over selling it as a complete low mileage limited edition ltd!!!!
wonderful if you might be needing a few parts to complete a bike??? the parts were actually priced pretty reasonable...
maybe this seller might have some nice 73Z1 parts for sale, after he finds a nice one to part out also..

True I know I have seen a few LTD's on craigs list for what I think is a rediculously cheap for a nice rider and they dont sell. one started at 2500 3 months later it was 1200.00 OBO dont know if it sever sold
While we the enthusiasts befefit from that guy parting it out it truly is a shame. to lose another running bike.
While I get kudos high Fives and waves from hotties as i ride my bike I get allot more people telling me they have parts than i do wanting to buy mine lol

That camaro of mine I mentioned is just like that. parked in the wrecker's and had a few liens against it. I didn't pay them, just went to court and had them exponged. it's all a process. if you know how to play the game that is.
I'd love to be able to keep em all on the road, ain't gonna happen though. It gets annoying, I still can't find exactly the bike I want (so hard to find a standard, unmolested, all there kz1000, dont know why). Maybe that's part of what gets me so hot, I don't know. I can say however that a lot of bikes get senselessly parted out.

Never stock for long. I re-did them for friends. Painted, altered, chopped them up, I had the insight to keep all the blinkers, rubber grommets, wiring parts in boxes.
I did good selling on ebay 2001 till about 2005. When everyone and their brother started selling.
Now, there are new aftermarket, foriegn nock-offs, catalogs that you can build a bike like a Harley as long as you have a frame and an engine core.
Nowadays, not alot of people want to spend the money and time to redo a KZ 900. Get an average run down bike. You know you need pistons and a valve job. Wiseco does not discount to small shops anymore, you got to pay $500 for pistons, $120 to bore your cylinder, my cylinder head Guy wants $400 today to redo a good head with just guides and new seals, gaskets are $50. So it costs over a grand just to do a top end! So now you have that same ugly, rusted, needs paint, tires etc. bike.
Someone stated earlier, the few guys that are left out here are getting less and less. So only the true enthusiasts are left to build as a labor of love, for enjoyment and get satisfaction out of it. These old bikes are not classic muscle cars!
You guys can start calling your selves 1% ers! I tried selling a drag bike, street chassis all summer on craiglist, I did not even get a lowball offer! There is even less interest in this style of bike. They are even dying out at the dragstrip. Pretty soon you will have to have the Z-KZ run in a nostalgia class. Which they have, and would be cool to see.
I am guilty of letting stuff sit, I have my reasons why I can't devote more time to these motorcycles. Hell, I can't even sell my house in Western New York, I have been working on that for 3 months.
Sorry for the rant, But I guess the less complete motorcycles out there only should in theory raise the value! Sooner or later For KZ900's and even KZ 1000's 76-77-78. I have sold 2 KZ900's to the California exporters also. And a Z1 to Mach IV motors in Wisconsin.
Now I might try again and sell whatever is left. 2 titles and frames, sorry both are raked and lowered. But if anyone ever shows up? They got to take every last rusted nut and bolt and used clutch cable, broken exhaust stud head etc. Clean out my basement! Potential of 2 KZ 900's maybe for $2500 dollars. Then after a couple years and a couple thousand dollars you might have something  Just imagine one of them restoration TV shows on the History channel getting ahold of a custom hot rod street cruiser show bike KZ 900! WTF? Maybe I'll email them!
If I try an ebay classified ad for free, I'll post it here. Classifieds are like crgslist, they give you 8 pictures and 45 days to run it.
Oh well, the coffee is ready now! Good Sunday Morning.
