It sucks that folks do that but the fact is that you can make more money that way.

I see it all the time with nice guitars, what are you going to do ?

I have a good bike and a parts bike and I'm always on the look out for another deal but you can't save them all.

The more they part them out and chop em up the cooler and rarer your stock bike becomes.

wireman makes a good point

I sat at cannery row with friends and watched people for an hour ,twice this weekend.

bikes would go by alone or in threes and fours...all billy bad ass or adventure tour and most of the folks had vests with tags or skull masks....

heading home we saw more bikes...never a z or kz or any heritage type bikes...one honda hawk 450 god bless him....but for the most part folks dont want these bikes...they want an image....these bikes are not popular....now if i ride mine around i'll get wave or a talk here and there...but no other Z's in my 7 years back on bikes...none

part em out...sell a fine one...i did....sell em to japan...whats the difference..nothing is scared these days let alone old bikes that no one wants....hang on to one and watch the junk ads...see if there is a save now and then....

actually last nite when i seen these 900ltd parts being listed.. had thoughts on bidding on the header that came off it.. kerker by kawasaki 4-1 header that was mint... but both my bikes have nice v/h exhaust... didn't really need it.. it lasted about 35 minutes...i believe it went for 315.00
he's atleast got the parts priced reasonable.. 1500.00 might be a bit high on the motor??? but the body pieces are priced fair considering he said it was redone last yr...

laporte county, just go down into the courthouse and state your case. $75 for the judge's time.

nobody wants these bikes, but as soon as I see one pop up locally it's gone before I send a message to the owner.

that's what I'd like to find out. I know my 550 was a freebie because the back-half was chopped off of her to bob it out. So, either they're long-term restorations, or just sitting around as a junk rack in the garage.

I know of a 74 Z1 with around 6k miles, the guy that owns it actually just had it craned up into the attic of his pole-barn a few months back.

I sell on eBay. Have never sold a complete bike in parts. Only basket cases or parts bikes.

whoa, apparently a lot of these old bikes are hiding in hoarders collections. How much you wanna bet they'll get scrapped out because there isn't a title etc, and it's faster/easier/cheaper to make a profit for the estate if they just take it down to the yard and toss it?

I've never been an optimist.

there are a couple eurotypes(i could tell by the e-mails i got from these jokers) going around trying to buy up everything in site like they did in the mid 90's. i think they have somekind of paypal scam going on one dude offered me 700.00 dollars more for my bike then i was asking but only if i would do paypal i got texts from both of these clowns less than 15 mins after i put the ad on kijji. i looked at the text and saw an area code that i didn't recognize so i looked them up. one was from atlanta georgia and the other was from jacksonville fla.i tried to call these numbers and it wasn't a phone it was some sort of texting device.in the meantime they both e-mailed me. so i asked them to call me back this didn't happen they e-mailed me back again iasked them to call me again i wouldn't talk about again in an e-mail. both of these guys kept insisting on paypal i kept saying no, cash or certified bank draft. i finally told both of them to go to hell if they couldn't be bothered to talk to me. i finally told them both that before i sold them anything i would take all 14 of my bikes out in the middle of the yard and set fire to them. my question is this if these dudes aren't scammers then how did they track me down so fast from 3000 miles away and who has fallin for this line of bullshit. a buddy of mine up almost got nailed by these guy's as well.

It is sad when you see a decent bike stripped for parts. For all the effort of parting bikes out, there's really not much additional money to be made these days - there have been too many people doing this and there's a glut of parts and not many bikes to put those parts on. Many of the bikes parted out would have returned decent money just by getting them running.

There are always a few bikes past any economical repair. I've had a few where the frames are too damaged, or the rust and corrosion is too much to attempt getting them running.
