Trying to remember what new parts cost back in the day. If you remember specific prices from your own purchases or just from magazine ads let's hear them. Then reflect on prices for the equivalent new parts today and what the original parts are bringing now.
I didn't get my 1980 Z1-R(first Kawi) till '83. It was pretty much stock except for a chrome Mac header(no baffle of course),a set of K&N pods, and a Dyna S ignition w/stock coils.
The local cycle shop owner was a dyed in the wool Kawi fan with his own very tricked out '78 Z1-R. He gave me so much gruff about the Mac header and pods that he sold me a new baffle and a stock air box the second time he saw me in the shop. Thanks Bill
He had a brand new Kerker K2 on his bike and had just sold his Kerker meg right before we met. He hated on the Mac, so he was pushing a new Kerker on me some kind of bad.
Brand new K2 was $250 or $270 from what I remember. With the meg a bit less, maybe $240.
Smoothbores were around $500. Used sets were $300 all day long. I lucked up on my first set of 29s for a smooth $100, and they turned out to be in perfect shape.
I hope I'm remembering this correct,
Andrews cams were around $270-$300 a pair.
Andrews springs were $60 a set.
Dyna coils seem like were $70 a pair.
New Kawi rings $50 set of 4
Wiesco 1075 kit ??
New current prices:
Chrome Kerker is $600 now.
Used smoothbores $6-800
New PSP cams $400
Dyna S Ignition $140
Dyna coils $140
K&N Pod filters $145
Someone else chime in with some of the prices you remember from back in the day.

Back then all you needed was a header and a set of smoothbores to rule the block,I remember my first ride on an 1170 around 1980 totally turned my world around at about 6500 when that beast came on the pipe!     :woohoo:
That was about the time I decided small motors sucked! :woohoo:

Dyna is not that inflated today, but Kerker? My gosh! They dropped the 1978 Z1R price to around $2500 on closeout. Late 82 they had their $1 a CC rebate so brand new GPZ1100 was aound $3200 and new ELR around the same price.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

That's gone up a little.
I remember giving $250 for the nicest 29's I've seen to date and that was almost 20 years ago.
I gave $400 for my 33 smooths new in the box last year and they had never had gas in them. Still had the up and down jets in the package with all the paper work. That was like christmas to me!

I used to just pitch the baffle and shove the end cap back in the headerBohicaBob wrote: Bought my first set of 29s for around $300 in 1978. Bought Kerker 4-1 pipes w/Megaphone from Dennis Kirk for around $170! Learned back then, the hard way, to either remove the fiberglass in the megaphone baffle or ensure that the fiberglass never came in contact with the inside of the megaphone.

Hah, BTDT. Top Ramen ruled baby!!! :woohoo: I was doing a bit better than $1.25, but still, money wasn't stacking up like cord wood around here.
