Sometimes you just stumble across stuff on google.

www.policemotorunits.com/id236.html

Top two photos look pretty obvious they are not KZ 1000's. They look like plain old CB 750's.

The Z1 was introduced in 1972 but were 900cc. When the Kawasaki engineers were testing it "code named New York Steak" they put Honda 750 side covers and tanks on them so they would be stealth and look like Honda's. They rode across the country a few times doing factory shakedown runs before production. The pics are hard to tell but the motor is the tell all since they intentionally made them look like Honda 750's. I can not tell if the pics are indeed Kaw motors or legit Honda 750's. Cool old pic though

An interesting read

All I gotta say is that absence makes the fart go honda. And those are farting hondas unless kaw disguised their bikes so much so that every piece was honda cloned. B)

The hell with what they look like, they didn't make the 1000 until '76.

I know but who is to say the caption is correct?

Kawasaki did make a 900 in 72 and they also dressed them as Honda 750's before production. So the pics probably are Honda's because I doubt Kawasaki would sell a Honda clone to the cops. All I am saying is Kawasaki did try to fool people during pre production testing by disguising them as Honda's
