Well I have nothing against Vans or Shinko tires. But in 27 years of street riding I have seen my share of near disasters because of items that have been secured to bikes becoming loose.
And I admit I almost had my own with a bike cover almost falling into my rear tire.My fault, late for work and bungee net was loose.Looking at your pics reminded me of that incident. My bike cover near mishap made me alittle anal about safety.Im not going to start preaching safety but Im glad your still with us. :)
Ride on......

anyone know how to adjust the 5 way shock adjusters? mine seem like they just want to spin freely in circles, i put the springs on softest now i want to fool around with the shocks. i was advertised in my research that these are supposed to be adjustable shocks. already feeling better about my springs being softer but i want the shocks adjusted.

Rotating the spring by grasping and turning it by hand doesn't accomplish anything, other than exposing a different view of the spring.

There's a special tool for adjusting the shock spring preload.

The lesson to be learned here is simply that articles carried strapped to the bike should be securely fastened so as not to become loose and create a dangerous condition.

That said, there are certain situations in which sneakers may prove invaluable.

so i was riding my bike this morning about 8:15 down a well traveled road, i traveled upon a manhole surrounded by that tar stuff they like to patch the roads with in Lacey, Washington.
as i was riding down the lane, not thinking much of the manhole i got on the throttle like i do when my speed drops under the limit. having just adjusted the wheel alignment in the rear the night before,i was feeling quite bold. so i hit the gas ignoring the obvious danger of the manhole. i hit the outside edge with the rear tire, which lost its grip and did a 1/4 turn around the manhole,-don't worry the bike did not go down and i was not injured, the lack there-of coffee this morning probably caused this incident, it is fixed now because of this and i just got done brewing a pot. I AM AWAKE. the point of the matter being-=... don't ride the bike without coffee-=... regardless if there is a cup-holder on these things or not!! its just not safe.

final synopsis, the shoe that I was not wearing(I was wearing boots(johnny bravo) went in the tire, pulled it to the side and stripped the adjuster bolt while that happened the tire wrapped around the center stand and cut the tire to ribbons. as I am lucky to be alive because this happened in traffic on the freeway in the left hand lane it worked out because the indecent turned the tire to the right.

stoppped a guy the other day has his work helmet at speed looked like it was layin on his tire just a floppin once we got stopped it hadnt done any damage so he just thanked me made no adjustments and took off onto a 65mph rd. we were at at 45 it was almost a disaster i would be willing to bet he has a nearly shredded tire or a usless hard hat today.

about the only thing I tie on anymore is the old lady
I got a kureyakin (how ever its spelled ) back pack given to me by a buddy if I'm riding somewhere that it wont fir in my jacket I bring it it will expand and even hold a full face helmet not to mention its leather and looks good
