anyone know what these wheels are?

I found this photo on a blog somewhere. Crazy looking bike. Really interested in those wheels, or any more photos/info on it. I'm wondering if the spokes are going to the outside of the rim like that so that you can run these without tubes?

Chain or shaft drive? And where is the drive?

a buddy of mine was telling me about a similar wheel spoke wheel for tubless tires on a moto guzzi he is building I googled it and yeah they go through the outside of the wheel I thought he was just rambling about about some obscure mod

It looks like you use an allen wrench in the depression on the hub end of the spoke to tighten it into the little cylinder on the rim end of the spoke. Pretty cool - no penetration of the rim so tubless tires can be easily used. Ed

Look at the spoke ends inside the hub, looks to be a hex there to adjust tension.

I think those wheels on the original bike are from the R1100GS, R1150GS, and R1200GS series BMW bikes. Notice the spokes go to the outer part of the rim. They are tubeless wheels.

The rear is a single-sided, shaft-drive (shaft on the right side).

The front is missing the left side brake rotor. He probably had a rough time getting the caliper to line up with a disk since the wheels were not originally mated to a standard fork. I can't tell what the fork is. The GS had a telelever front end.

Those GS bikes are huge and heavy. I helped a buddy of mine rebuild/align one after a crash. He used to wheelie those things for a block.
