Should I buy this KZ650?

I am wanting to buy a 79 KZ650. The owner has no title to the bike. The saller pulled it out of a storage locker that a resident in the building left behind. Only will supply a bill of sale. My question is can I get a title for this bike in Illinois? Without really knowing it's past.

I delt with this in indiana I went to the license branch and got a differeny story ebrytime I went and was told I couldnt get a title. long story short

get a bill of sell contingent on getting a title have a police inspection done mine was free but generally a cop will come out run the numbers for 5 to 10 dollars take the bill of sale and the police inspection to the dmv and after being told they wont or cant do it by a teller or 2, ask for the manager if he/she refuses then ask her to call the state bmv and verify he/she cant.

if it is valued under 5000.00 they will issue you a title in your name ask for title only at first it is quicker. and no need for proof on insurance etc...

Illinois isnt that much different from indiana so I have been told

I got lucky and had someone who knew what they were doin at the state bmv call me after i tried all the rediculous things the branch had told me to do and set me straight

Just a few questions. Did you have the local or State police inspect the bike?
Was that before or after you bought the bike? I understand that there was a contingency on the sale, but did you take physical possession during the entire affair?
So what forms had to be filled out?

Call your local police they will meet you wherever the bike is located and do it there. I was lucky the bike I ran across was at a family members house.

the officer will have the form you wont need any paperwork to do this part. Just an ID and let him know your intentions (buying the bike) They will not give you any information either because of the privacy act they will hand you the form that states it has not been reported stolen

I down loaded a bill of sale from the dmv websites had the guy fill it out and a verbal agreement that I would pay him as soon as I got the title applied for.

took the police inspection bill of sale and my ID to the license branch. had to do a little arguing with the clerks and ask for the manager who ended up calling the state bmv and then she instructed the clerk to process it.

I went back paid the guy and waited about 2 weeks for my title

The attitude of the manager was the worst part of it all. but it was relitively easy and was only about 30.00 or 40 bucks

ok its a little different in your state but you may get by with an affirmation of use condition of antique vehicle form i would call 800-252-8980. and tell them you have an antique morocycle that currently does not have a title and you would like to title it.

I had to get a frame with a title to register the 650 I bought from my brother. He lost the title and passed away which screwed me here in Florida. I got my titled frame from a member here at KZR (Thanks Kawsakiman)
