Well I wouldn't worry too much about some one here stealing your PVC design for their KZ's...
I'll go on a limb here where very few of us are going to install a PVC revision on our beloveds, cheap or not...
As I replied to your post, for prototyping in PVC, yup get it fully but once tested and proven (as mentioned by Ed Dyno) build a final revision accomplished with welded seams in buffed aluminum, chrome stainless steel etc... with the butterfly valve design included most ppl don't have the means, tools or knowledge to copy...
Down fall in this concept is $$$ in your time and materials... If it ain't cheap, very few are going to bite (pay $$$).
Example... $10 valve cover gasket from Z1... Ah hell no, I make my own out of a cereal box... Some of us are real cheap bastards....
As also mentioned, if there isn't a large enough market for it chances are slim someone (China) is going to steal the idea. So get it protected no doubt but worry about stealing your idea, well hell that can happen regardless and if it isn't a huge market/seller chances are slim.
Just my two worthless cents...

It's not a negative Tri but a reality in engineering & manufacturing... As Plummen mentioned on the original post, on another forum this guy had custom built an absolutely gorgeous airbox but wanted something like $600-$700 for them.... :S :pinch:
Well hell for that price, go get yourself a brand new set of CR's or Mik's with POD's...
Now let's say for $200 or preferably less, that would be something others may bite for... Time and materials, semi mass production etc... if it comes out to $10-$20 an hour then is it truly worth it, unknown for only you as the designer/builder be able to answer that...
As I replied in the original post, in polished SS or buffed aluminum, I can see these selling no doubt if reasonable pricing but if your costs out weigh what you receive... your call. A few here and there customs for some extra cash, may be worth it no doubt.
Hell if under $200 and it makes it easier to remove them damn BS carbs off the head (rubber between air box and carb's PITA), that alone would be worth it.
Anyhoot, looking forward to a SS/aluminum version.
In the mean time... Send Craig a PVC prototype he can install on his KZ and test for ya...

I thought I once saw someone on this site building an exhaust system made of PVC; anyone know how that turned out? Gotta go; I'm in the process of filing a patent for the coil mod and I don't want anyone beat me to it.

Actually that's a perfect example Ed...
Costs of pipe, time spent in material costs (pipe, mandrels, collectors, baffles), bending/welding/fabrications, if painting or in chromed versions etc... for my own build sure why not but for selling... Can't compete with lower end exhaust systems available. You want stainless or titanium, forget it way out of my $$$ range....
Has anyone other then me priced mandrel bend 90 pipe or a 4-1 mild steel collector... I have, not really cheap.
Or another example is in the AF/R meter... Does it work yes but for producing for sale, too costly where 5 wire sensor alone is $70, now included the micro-processor, op amps and associated passive circuitry well your now over the already for sale pricing so through that idea out the door. Just can't compete.
All in all, it's all goo for as already mentioned, if you can keep it reasonably priced, you bet...
Daveo, have one for a KZ650 as well... Ed all yours to test....
