1982 GPZ1100 with 60k miles, worth it?

So I found a second owner 1982 GPZ1100, It's in nice clean shape, 2nd owner, was repainted (body condition 7 out of 10), comes with the extra 2 piece faring kit (racer faring that you dont usually see on these bikes), but it has 60k miles on it. He said it was rebuilt at 30-35k. No leaks, runs like a dream, 2 seats, new tires last year and garage stored and is asking for 1500 firm.

Most of the late 70s early 80's kz1000's/GPz's I have seen for sale don't have no where near that mileage as it's usually around half that at least.

Should I wait for a lower mileage bike or buy it? My main worry with the higher mileage is the resale. My plan was to some money into the bike but be able to sell it quickly if I ever had to.

Thoughts?

Ask Larry Cavan at: www.cavanaughracing.com/ He probably knows more about the air cooled Kawasaki's than anybody else here.

If you have good compression and the FI still works, I'd say by it.

The crappy thing is just I missed a 80's KZ 1100R with 20k miles on it, in decent condition for 1200, I missed the ad by just by a few days.

So I found a 79 KZ1000, in slightly worse shape 45k miles and for almost double the money, but with basic maint. stuff done, like cables, brakes, pods, etc.

I'm not a kawasaki expert but isnt the 82 GPZ slightly superior to the KZ? I realize it has FI which is a sore spot for some (although the 82 B2 has a better version) so people shy away from that but a fuel pressure regulator fixes things for moddding and thats easy as pie to install, much easier than rejetting and moving needles.

So do KZ's gennerally fetch more that the early look a like GPz's? Is there more of a nostalgic thing with a KZ?

There are many factors that influence the availability and pricing of older Kawasaki bikes. This has been discussed, at length, on this site but it boils down to age and a bit of mythology. The GPz bikes are desirable but have acquired a bad reputation (deservedly for the very early FI units)...undeservedly for the 1982 and later units. The most desirable are the Z1 series and the KZ1000A3 and A4 bikes...less so for the Z1R series, but still sought after. The least desirable (if judged solely by price) are the KZ1000A1 and A2...and the entire KZ1000B (LTD) series (although the B4 seems to be valued slightly higher), and the KZ1000E series. If I had a shot at a 1982 KZ1100B2 (aka GPz1100) for US$1500 and it was running and well, I'd do it. But I also know what can go wrong and am able to do most repairs (or, at least, am not afraid of tackling repairs). Buying a motorcycle with 60,000 miles and relying on it as my sole transportation without knowing the entire history of the bike is somewhat 'iffy'.

Oh thats perfect info, thanks! Ya Im from Canada. There was an MK2 for a good price earlier but I didn't get it because it was a shafty and I figured shaftys are less desirable because of the drive train loss difference over the chain, engagement, etc.

there is no real..set point for price....there are folks who can guess close....

like said if you got a decent running gpz1100 and it runs...1500...it will for sure be start....sounds like you want a good bike to ride and do some stuff to...if that bike runs good ..do it.....later they will show up on your doorstep...get em all...1100R...kz...z1...you will start seeing em everywhere...:P
