I had the Royal blue model in 1980 and to this day I think it's one of the nicest 80's Kawis ever made.

They are sooooo scarce! A red one sold on eBay a few weeks ago for a small fortune. It was perfect except for badly yellowed pipes.

I've been searching the auction site for years and they so seldom appear. Why? It seems the Z1R TC is easier to find.

The MKII with a Kerker and low bars was an awesome looking bike. Would love to find one someday.

Specifically, a tad over 4000 were made...I suspect you'll find a disproportionate number in Japan ;)

Many of the bikes ended up in parts - the Mk II engines are the most sought after for racing. The cases are beefier, the crank was heavier duty...

Am I understanding correctly that a blue model was made in 1980? I thought the luminous navy blue and red were made in 79 and only the black was available in 1980??

My 79 was blue when I got it and my 80 is black...both came new like that.

They were beautiful machines indeed. To bad they were short in production. If you had one back in the day you probably listened to stuff like this.

Is that 4000 of the blue 1979 model MKII's? If that's true I'll feel even worse that I painted mine back in the early 90's...

I have been looking for one for the past 13 years. I had the a2a below for a year before it was stolen and wrecked. I saw one on the side of the highway 10 years ago for 1500 bucks but by the time I got back to it a couple of days later it was gone. I'll keep looking and hopefully find one before I die.

When I went to pick mine up sight unseen, the guy told me it was a 78 kz 1000. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally saw it and it was a Luminous Blue MK2(for 600 dollars)

I still have it registered as a 1978 kz1000.
