To streetfighter or not, that is the question.

I recently bought a laid down '96 zx9r for cheap and haven't made the decision on what to do with it yet. I haven't been able to find the plastics for it so I'm leaning towards making a streetfighter out of it.

I know that its not a KZ, but what would you guys do, make a streetfighter or back towards original?

I can't recall anyone accomplishing a KZ900/1000 mod using ZX9 components.... Possibly I'm wrong no doubt....

If nothing else, gives you a whole slew of updated brakes, suspensions, rims etc...

I did happen to get a bunch of parts from another zx9r that includes a complete front end from wheel to brakes for just a project if I ever find a kz 900/1000 that I could find for the right price. It would be nice if these parts could work on that.

The superbike bars and a different headlight is kind of the path i thought about.

Go for it. Perfect bike for a streetfighter IMO. The plastics would cost you half of what the bike is worth if you could find them. Anybody who ever had a ZX-9 would tell you it's a great bike, but it can't be competitive with the current liter bikes. Your biggest challenge will be hiding the wires.

I love my '01 and it still scares the crap out of me. I know that it'd get walked on by the new liter bikes but I know that it's a lot more comfortable though too.

My problem is I want to keep all the bikes that come thru me, but that's not a totally bad thing I guess, lol.

Ii guess my question is what constitutes a streetfighter to you? Big angled ducktail pointing up? crazy big bling brakes? MX bars? dual headlights?

Id make it a "naked" bike seeing as you are halfway there. ;)

Even though its not a KZ, post some pice too!

My opinion is : stock is wrong!

Here's some inspiration for you:

I'd leave the clipons as they look way better than too wide and to tall mx bar.
Be brave, and cut the bike as much as you can!:woohoo:

I am definitely thinking about going a little more than a naked bike but not all the way to the streetfighter style. The dirt bike style bar is what I'm looking at to make it a little more comfortable and the look I think I'll like. I was looking and found a set of kids bars and they are quite a bit narrower, probably closer to what the width of the clip-ons would be so I may go that route. The head light is another story, haven't seen anything that has caught my eye yet.

Here's a pic of it before I started to into it. This is the good side, and my camera really makes stuff look good, lol.
