Help on knowing year! was created by nbrider
So I found an old KZ440 LTD on local classifieds for a great deal. The interesting thing was he addressed it in his ad once as a 1982, then he addressed it at another point in the ad as an 84'. I was confused, but forgot to ask him, and I doubt he knew anyways. I then was getting it registered, looked at the registration and they had it down as an 83! So I THINK it is between 82-84.

It is chain driven, I know its an LTD 440. I will post pics, but I just wanted to know HOW I can tell what year it is. Is there any unique characteristics of 82's or 83's or the 84's?

I haven't seen enough threads for the KZ440's. Love the look of KZ's, so I wanted a 440 as it's my first motorcycle. i need to know the year so I know what parts to buy incase of break down and what manual to pick up.

Thanks again!

T.

P.S. I apologize if this isn't in the right section, I was lost as to where to put it!

I am an auto detailer, and I am in the process of restoring so excuse any mess in the pics.

I think that you would want to use the frame number and or the engine number to determine the year of the bike and to order any needed parts. IIRC the frame # is on the neck and engine # is on the left hand side (as you sit on the bike) of the engine case above the trans - just below the carbs.

I do not know as much about the 400/440 bikes as I do the 650s but I am sure there are folks here that do know about them. IIRC there have been some links to another site just about the 400/440s. If I can find it I will pass it on.

That site is now a static site as a memorial to the original owner and KZR member, Odd Ivar. The follow on site is www.armbell.com/forum/index.php?mforum=kz400
