My local dealer isn't too bad. I use the web site to check prices then a quick phone call to see about availability. I look up my own #'s fist with the Kawasaki Parts Diagrams. If it has to be ordered then I make the decision to make one with them or get a lot more with another site. If ordering it's always best to have a good look and try to get everything and some extra filters or something to make the freight worthwhile.

For one thing, John deere is above average as far as parts goes. They move so much frieght between dealerships everyday that they can afford to be much better. Thats why I still like John Deere mowers. They cost almost twice as much for a comparable model but if you need parts or something breaks down there is always a dealership right there. 2 days later your mowing again. I've had snapper, craftsman, yardman, and a cub cadet. Average time to get them fixed?? 3 weeks.
Anyway, these guys are right. I've only bought a few parts from the actual dealership and it takes forever to get them. They were very nice and had great customer service though. Alot of dealerships won't even work on bikes this old though.

Z1 Enterprizes for sure can't be beat. If they don't have what you need, I've had good luck with Ronayers.com for OEM parts although shipping cost has gotten a little pricey the last several years.

I always like the look on the face of the kid at the parts counter at the local dealership when I tell him what I'm looking for. They have a look like when you make a strange noise around your dog. head tilted and a confused look in their eyes.

Great news. My parts finally came in. Bad news - I asked for quantity of (3) for all the starter clutch parts and I received 1 each...

Do you need 3 of each or are you ordering spares?
I can remember before the internet waiting 7 months for head gaskets. The dealer told me the assembly line would change for each industry every couple of months (motorcycles, jet skis, small engines and whatever else Kawasaki Heavy Industries was manufacturing at the time). Hopefully your run was next in line. Then add the boat ride from Japan it could be a very long wait for factory parts. The internet has sure made it better and quicker.

I inspected the starter clutch and it looks like one of the springs is really weak and the other 2 are OK. However, for the work involved, I planned on replacing all 3 springs, pins, and rollers.

They would have to order them again - probably 8 days. I wish Z1 had them. Those guys have been great all around. I ordered carb rebuild kits and airbox ducts and they shipped quickly and correctly.
