One more thing to think about all....

As mentioned, I as well just love the feeling I get when a kid or old person, Harley or sport rider, walks up and goes "whoa, holly shit, awesome, what year , love it, that's whacked, I had one of those back in the 70's etc..."

But.... Not everyone has the means/garage space, money, time, fabrication tools, knowledge, desire, HEART etc... to do what we do whether stock or mod...

Think about it, here's this neglected 30 year old bike that has been sitting in a barn or yard for 10 years plus and now look at her. She's not only beautiful but runs like a bat out of hell as well... B)

Hell, 90% of the bike owners out there don't ever touch their bikes other then with their asses in the seat and hands on the bar. Take it to the shop...

And here we are splitting cases, gears, adding 100 plus cc kits, performance cam & cam degreeing, jetting, fabrications, LED conversions, swingarm-mono-shock-180mm rear tire modifications :woohoo:, electronic ignitions, ignition timing etc.... Now how cool is that? B)

Then there's the safety factoring... Seriously guys & gals, can't compare 70's suspension, braking, fuel injection etc... to today's technologies... ;)

Considering the HP and torque curves of these new engines and setups, has to be or the manufacturers would see a huge amounts of deaths on their bikes sold during the first week....

Think about it, they're selling 180hp bikes out the door to someone who most likely has never ridden a motorcycle at all.... How dangerous is that....:S

Ah well, a little of both worlds works... And don't fret, I won't be buying a new bike for I love doing all the mentioned work myself on $400 POS... It's just magic...;)

I refinished this bike for my brother from a "rat". When I saw this bike back than it was like a cross between a cruiser and a sport bike. I think we must consider the stile and appeal of the times. For today this bike looks "retro" but not back than.

Mine was rat too. It sat outside, under a bike cover for about ten years. It took me two weeks to get the tank usable. It had less than 5000 miles though. I still like riding my olders ones better, they are less buzzy and a little roomier. The more modern brakes and electrics are nice though. I bought a 750 like that one pictured, but sold it without really riding it much. [/img]

I'm with ya, OMR!

A couple of weeks ago I was riding out to the farm on the 650B and was waiting at the highway stop sign for traffic clear when a 12 YO (or so) boy on a bicycle rides up beside me and hollers, "Nice bike!" Mind you, it is in dire need of a bath and still has the old painted body work which is about 80%. That made me feel good and gives me some hope for the youth of "Harleyville".

You are right that too many riders are seemingly afraid to put a wrench to their bikes these days. Take it to the shop and let them bolt on the needed farkles. :D

BTW, yesterday we stopped for lunch at the Golden Arches Supper Club in Wamego, KS and there were three bikes parked there, a 1200 Goldwing, a Victory of some sort, and an '80s Yamaha Virago. The oldest guy was on the 'Wing and the middle aged guy was on the Vic. The youngest guy was on the Virago. Perhaps there are more youth who like these older steeds than I thought. Or maybe he can't afford anything else!

Nates vintage bike axiom: Riding is the reward for time spent wrenching.
Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.
