That's good, try to see if you have leaks. That's most likely the next check to do anyway. Another issue on them is lost voltage along circuits, starting with the main fuse at the fuse box. I don't know if you have been through the wiring? Low charging voltage, low coil voltage, and low headlight voltage can be traced back to the Fuse box and harness there. Pretty common.

actually the headlight is pretty bright and it turns over pretty easy it just wont stay running

I just meant that these are issues that could be Other problems that could effect your 550. I'd look for the Vacuum leaks, before going back in the carbs. If you do get into the carbs see member Loudhvx posts. he has a web site set up for the 550. Lots of good info there.

found the culprit i had the vacuum hoses on in the wrong spots

instead of having the hoses on the mounting boots for the carbs i had the attached to the carbs themselves.

ok so another inquiry from the great minds is idleing at 2k good or bad it sounds a little much to me but i am a newbie. i ran out of adjustment on my idle screw so ive got to make another few tweaks. but i did have it ideling without me touching it and i never had to mess with the choke so i think that problem is solved.

Did you check you throttle cable to see if it still had slack? 2K is a bit much, 1K would be more like it.

the beast has come to life finally. took it for a small ride works great idles good just needed a little help getting it started
