I wouldn't attempt to remove that poster from the backing just yet.Take it down to where you will get copies made and see if they can scan it the way it is.You could end up damaging it if you try removing it.
And yes(like mentioned in a u2u),I'm in for some copies as well!
And for packaging...may I suggest going to a flooring store, and ask them for a bunch of the cardboard carpet cores. Most of them are quite thick and durable enough to use to ship these...and they should be free, because they throw them away.
You don't need to use the really thick ones, but have a look at what they have and pick though them.
I get people asking me for them all the time, for different reasons.
Sounds like you have a new beer-fund happening!

I would go back to where you found it and try to find the owner and see if he has any other cool stuff that he wants to throw out. If he had that poster he might have some other cool stuff or information and stories. I bet he has some great vintage pictures as well....Russ

Ok, guys! I stopped at Kinko's today. 1. the lady was an absolute bitch! My wife has her own business, and we spend a lot of cash there, and she jsut talked to us like we were scum. So screw that place! Plus hse snarled something about 12.50 a square foot to scan, and 12.50 a square foot to print....no way.
SO I went down to Pioneer Printing. A local company. The dude was cool, and said he could do it, but all they had was a proofer, and would cost a lot for me to get it all scanned and in right. 14.50 a square foot! 4x3 is 12 square feet! so thats like 175 bucks or more!
He tells me to go to a couple other places first and ask them.
So I go to Precision Graphics a couple blocks away, and the chick in there was cool! She said she would scan and print for a total of .45 cents a square foot! $10 bucks for the pic on a cd when its done scanned, and print it full size, or standard poster size for .45 cents a square foot!
NICE!
now the catch..... I have to separate it from the foam, becasue they have a rolling scanner, NOT a bed scanner. The roller will only to paper thickness, not the 1/8 inch or so foam its on.
My last resort is I have a buddy whos an IT consultant, and he has something like 75 clients. One of those 75 businesses has to ahve a bed scanner we can borrow for a few minuts! The catch with that is hes 500 miles away from me in Salt Lake City. I aint got no problem going over there if it means I can get it scanned.
Anyone on here from Denver or somewhere driving distance from Cheyenne that knows of a bed scanner?

I have a friend that makes signs and he goes to the local office supply store to have his designs blown up to the size he will use on the finished product.

The problem is getting this big sucker into the computer. Noone has a bed scanner big enough to put this into flat, and since it was glued to the thick foam, it can't go through the typical roller scanner that everyone has.

I wonder how much quality would be lost if you took a super hi def picture and had them make a poster from that. Would a blueprint shop have the right scanner, blueprints can get quite large.

How about having it scanned for 175 and printed at the cheaper place Then charge enough for each copy to recoup your expenses. Id be in for one as well
