Points Cover KZ650 was created by T_Dub
Hey, I was wondering if anybody had the dimensions of a points cover for a KZ650. Just the outer diameter, the bolt locations, and the gasket area thickness would be ok.

Thanks

Couldn't the measurements be taken directly from the bike where the cover fits?

OK, I'll bite... why would one need this?

Perhaps a member can scan one... to scale and post it.

In the mean time try this:

Points Cover

Best of success, :)
Bill

PS
It is a complex form made up of the intersection of two different diameter circles.

Well, I'm gonna CNC myself a billet one with the Japanese Yoshimura letters on it, since real ones are hard to come by. And I don't have access to mine for another week and a half, and I'm impatient.

Thanks Bill, that should do nicely!! I'll CAD it up and post a render tonight.

PMC out of Japan sells them and I think you can order one through Z1E. Unless I had the bike in front of me it will be difficult. The cover is round with a bumpout on the side, the screw mounts are not horizontal like the 900/1000. My point cover is off of my 650 mas we speak so I could get some pics with a tape measure if you need.

Thanks, Bills pics did nicely for a start, I have it mostly drawn up now. I just have to do a final dim check against my own before I make it, but the hard work is done.

When you make it, you may want to make it slightly taller inside. The later covers had a tiny bit more roof clearance to accomodate factory electronic ignitions.

I don't think the older covers will necessarily interfere, but they get close when used with the factory electronic ignition.

The newer covers are about .5mm taller.

If you do a good job of it and get the process down, why not make a few up for sale to members or ebay.

Good points covers are hard to come by. If you do most are not in good shape or NOS sell for 100+ bucks.

Please post some pics of your work for the rest of us to admire.

So heres a render of what I've come up with. Once I check it for dimensional accuracy against mine, I'm gonna have it rapid prototyped. Then if I can cast it I will, but if not it'll have to be machined. Then I can look at making duplicated if anyone wants one. I can make plain ones too, without the Yoshimura lettering. I guess they can be finished or unfinished as well.
