That's nice!

I got this plastic one on ebayUK:

No fitting issues with it or the '78 original when used with a later model's factory electronic ignition.

Powder Keg made this points cover on his 650:

He also had ports/windows in the tank to check gas level;

And was working on a clutch cover:

T_Dub, if you can make points and other covers, you could have a good market for them here. B)

If I make the points covers that'll be it, at least until I get out of school and save up for my CNC. Then I'll be making all sorts of things!

But if anybody has any special requests over the next 8 months, I'll try and make some stuff. I'm going to be making billet triple trees and clip ons for my 650 this winter too. I'll keep you all posted once the projects begin. I'm sure if anybody is interested in the parts I make I can do a limited amount of extras. The main project will be throttle bodies so I can do fuel injection.

So, I cut the cover out of foam today on the cnc, because its a bit finicky and I havent used it in a while. But, if cut out great! So I'm gonna cut it out of aluminum on Monday and I'll get some pics up of the process and the finished product!

Hi T_Dub,
I'm new to this forum and can't tell how old this post is but wondering if you had success building your points cover? It's my turn to need one and cant seem to find one.

Here's one from a KZ550. It's the same as the 81 KZ650 & may fit the same as the 70s 650s since the 550/650/750-4 models use the same gasket. I have one FS that I refurbished. PM if interested.

They are backward compatible, but not always forward compatible. I really wanted to use a 77 Kz650 cover on my 550, but the electronic ignition parts must be a tiny bit taller than the points equipment. I couldn't get the cover to sit flush without contacting parts underneath.
