I think in truth the real requirement is that the bike is some how recognisable as a Kawasaki. If a long time KZ fanatic has to ask you what it is, then it's not a KZ.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Depends on the fanatic. Some of the KZR members here amaze me with the level of detail they know. Others like myself know the basics. I've had non-kz fanatics ask if mine is a z1 or kz900. So non-kz fanatics still recognize mine as a kz of some kind which means I have not taken it far enough. :)
