Part of the issue is the backbones of these bikes are aluminum - and aluminum is prone to fracturing when under repeated stress. Add to that these frames break along a weld line and it really has to point out the poor design of these bikes.

Build them light and cheap, stomp everyone's collective behind in AMA Superbike, sell 'em like hot cakes as every squid needs a Gixxer, all the while knowing that most of them will be wadded up junk within a couple thousand miles and laugh all the way to the bank. Seems like a dream recipe for Suzuki. So now a few of them broke. Call me surprised.

Not!

Hey Craig,
Did you by chance see a phone number. I was wondering if that swingarm could be made to fit a kz? Nah... on second thought I wouldn't want to take any chances with that breaking too.:P

actually i went to the recall site and i found a few more machines that they build that have frame issues so i'm kind of thinking there robotic welders need some update courses or maybe they need to hire real welders again if there are any left in the world, after all the jobs have been eatin up by machines.

i was just looking at my freinds fz-1 perimeter type /twin spar /stressed motor type/thinga majiggy....and there is a lnog....THIN...almost vertical weld under the knee/tank area......same hollow member spar type frame........ewwwwy.....
So what now we enter a new faze of motorcycling where we notice frames more and our eyes are drawn to the oh so nice painted to blend in joinings...welds....stamped sections.....oh great....now bikes really are gonna kill ya...

It will be like when i'm out to dinner with freinds...and everyone is chating and i'm checking the ceilings and walls for carpentry flaws...not that i could care......it is just habit to see if things are sticking out at you wrong.....

Will i be overly observant now and have one more of lifes nice simple things(standing next to new model sportbike smiling and confident that it's the new deal" turned complicated-jaded ..... in this mad world.....

Nah, just build a strong back style frame with two 2x2x1/4 wall tube gusseted to the steer tube as the back of the frame, and also run them down under the engine. Sure it adds a few pounds, but that is nothing to the steel steer tube press into the 3/4" wall aluminum outer for the steering tube.

Figure it might add about 40-50lbs to the frame, but by wheely-ing and dumping your squid date off the back you still have weight savings that will make any bike builder proud.

So do you have a minimum weight requirement for the back seat dweller in order to balance out the weight on your forks from all the bracing .

i figure we added less than 2 lbs to the weight of the frame by going that route!
