motorcycling and the sixth sense? was created by trianglelaguna
how is it that as you ride ,you can most times shut down the throttle just before you come around a cop....or you get a sixth sense that somthing is in the road ahead...like a sprinkler wetting the corner of your local fast road out of a housing area, and slow down.....or a car getting ready to rear end you at at an intersection, and you move to one side so they see movement and miss you.....or a cop coming behind you but still to far to see for sure...but you just "know" and slow down just in time...and when these things happen ,i just say "i knew that was coming" and kinda pat re-affirm why i'm still in one piece .....
i was doing 85 and thought ,ok where are you, and slowed down just as a highway patrol bronco came around the bend this morning.....he was staring at me as we passed in dif directions all right....i bet he was thinking "i knew you were there too"...
do you think motorcyclysts are developing this driving awareness or even "sixth sense" becuase of the high life risks posed by the situations we daily avoid...i notice it spills over into my car driving big time and gives you great "cop eyes",idiot alerts and road hazards awarness.......is it a sixth sense???

I don't know.
I think I need to work on my 6th sence.
I had an unmarked police car behind me at a light last Summer.
I didn't even notice him.
I was in a right turn lane, but didn't know it until the last moment as there were no signs, only a faded arrow painted on the road and by the time I saw that it was too late.
When the light turned green, I pulled out first to beat the traffic, and the car behind squeels it's tires so I pick up some speed to let him get in as well.
A few hundred feet down the road his lights come on, and I think Oh S__t!.
He pulls me over and asks if I'm in a hurry to beat that truck in front of the proper lane.
I explain I didn't know it was a right turn lane as there was no sign.
He then says he got me going 100 kph in an 80 zone a while back.
Probibly did, but I deny it. ;)
He takes my DL, Ownership and Ins. papers to his car.
Comes back in a few minutes and lets me go! :silly:
Says to take it easy.
I did until I was outta site.

I gotta work on my 6th sence, although I was lucky enough not to get any tickets last year.

this is hard to watch...but it might save one of us to get a gut level reality check...my hair on ym neck stands up when i watch this ......not for the guy who was filming....but for the guys who's lane he was in when it happened...rainy wet pavement...crossing into oncoming traffic, and staying in that lane.....death wish......notice the tape job for the tank mounted camera on the gsxer.....sad but people are coming the other way and folks never count on it happening to them....:(

I have no respect for idiots who drive like that - but a LOT of respect for the helicopter pilot who put it down on the road in what looks like a pretty narrow ravine. Holding his position as he took off took a huge amount of skill!

Sixth sense, spidey sense, another level of consciousness, or guardian angel tapping us on the should, whatever we wish to call it, there is definitely something other than dumb luck around us. I think some people become a part of it and others ignore it at their own peril.

i think when riding we all are at a Heightened awareness level.
how many times have we all looked down the road and just seen that car and think to ourselfs,
that guy is going to pull out in front of me and prepare for it?
every time i sense that, they always do and i'm ready for it.
we seem to have a knack for spotting danger.
maybe it's because of no distractions like a radio, cool air conditioning, feeling of safety Surrounded by 2 tons of steel or whatever it might be.
whatever it is, i know i seem to be more aware of my surroundings.
for all i know i do have a guardian angle watching over me. i did lose someone close to me in a motorcycle accident.
be safe everyone, spring is right around the corner.

btw, in that video, that guy was riding way to hard and paid the ultimate price for it.
it's a damn shame he had to take someone else with him.

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

That vid sure makes me think.
Sixth sense worked for me had two head on's one at nite another in the day time both coming into my lane ended up getting on the shoulder I always ride with it but I always worry about the one time I'm not watching
Now for sixth sense for cops I think they had it and knew I was coming. lol

Don't know about sixth sense, but the way I've always seen it is it takes 2 to make a 2 vehical accident and 1 to make a 1. If you watch out for YOU, it doesn't matter what other iddiots do. There are definate exceptions to this, but for the most part it's true. Someone turns left in front of you, you have brakes and steering to avoid a collision if you're at the top of your game. I'm too old now to be at the top, so this rule don't work completely unfortunately, but in the prime of riding I could say this. Every time I had any kind of accident, I can look back and lay blame on myself to some degree. Live and learn from your mistikes if you live through them. The police, that's another story, I was never any good at avoiding them, finally decided the smart thing was just to not speed. :)

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
