I start looking for a station around 100 miles. Certainly don't want to be out in the middle of nowhere past that. Usually puts me around 35 mpg.

I remember hitting 220 miles with the stock jets and tune of the engine. After a valve adjustment, rejet, coils, electronic ignition. I hit 150 to the tank now. It runs a hell of a lot better. No more morning sickness, faster warmups, and throttle response is way better. KZ 650 B1

I ride my '85 GPz550 daily to work, about 60 miles round trip. Most of it's open freeway, but the initial 20 minutes of city streetlights throw off the true open mileage i could get. 150 miles before flipping it to reserve on my 4.8 gallon stock tank. Petcock works just fine. I cruise about 75-85 depending on traffic. Stock? Somewhat. K&N Pod Filters, Stage 3 Jetting, Accel Coils and wires, Iridium Spark Plugs, 4-1 Supertrapp Street System(baffled but uncapped, shaken but not stirred :woohoo: ), 130/70-18 rear tire(120/80-18 stock), and one tooth down in the front. I don't putz around either.

I was amazed at the gas mileage on the track bike pictured in my avatar. 227 miles in 2 days, and never went through a 1/2 a tank on day one, and only topped off for day 2. I was riding it hard, and keeping the revs above 6K. Moriwaki Exhaust, Stage 3 Jetting, and K&N Pod Filters too.

i get 90 to 100 miles and i'm starting to get nervous i don't like to push bikes that much, i have a smaller ltd tank and a 1075 with 29mm smoothies and .395 cams also my typical cruising speed is about 80-85mph so my mileage would be better if i didn't ride like a tool.

And never trust your expectations. I'd take those long trips on the MKII and usually got 40mpg, but got as low as 30 and as high as 50mpg and I always rode the same on the interstates at 70mph. Riding with a rainsuit on used to kill my mileage, I guess the rainsuit is like a wind sail. Headwinds, even those unnoticed can cut 5-10mpg. I like to fill up at 100 miles to be safe, but only in areas I'm familier with, otherwise more planning is needed. I've ridden several places where there was no gas for over 100 mile stretches, so if you "only" have 75 miles on a tank you would definately want to fill before proceding through those roads.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

i went for spin one time on my 2 stroker with a tracy body (very small tank) on a 60 mile loop. i ran out of gas and my buddy road ahead on his zed to a gas station and brought back 3 liters of gas in used 1 lt oil containers. from then on that bike was strictly in town and fill up before i go anywhere.
