Race ideas needed was created by kawtoy
Some guys and I at work would like to set up a race this spring. It will not be a speed race, more of a distance race for bragging rights. Here is my idea so far

We each have to buy a motorcycle for $350 or less (can not use own bikes)and get it to pass safety inspection. Then we race around Lake Ontario. Speed is not important but mechanic skill and route planning are. Buying cheap bikes will put us all on the same level hopefully. It would be a two or three day race (it's a big freaking lake) with a party at a hotel each night.

Any ideas, suggestions, warnings?

3 day race with parties every night sounds at least like a week long event in my case. Recuperative abilities have at least doubled...maybe tripled. Sounds like fun make a video!!!

The guys on Top Gear did a similar thing (sans parties) with cars. Pretty good show.

Great idea, should be fun.

It would be fun to add some "tasks" that have to be completed along the way. You have to have picture taken of you
1)Doing a burnout
2)Standing on top of the bike as it lay on it's side
3)Attractive woman doing a sleazy biker chick pose on bike
4)Picture with a cop (after being pulled over or not)

Shane I think the deck is stacked in your favor. I say that out of respect, in that I've seen some of the bargains you have picked up over the years. I wouldn't bet against you.

One of the ideas is that the winner gets to keep all the bikes that are entered into the contest. That will help to stop someone form paying $1000 for a bike and say they got it for $150. If you have a chance of losing the bike I am sure you will spend as little as possible.

Kind of along the same lines as a claiming race with horses. Actually it is a pretty good way of keeping everyone honest. I would have never thought of that.

I thought sbout thst but it is actually faster to drive. We had a big catamaran (spelling?) ferry here a few years ago that would shuttle you to Toronto. It took 3 hours and cost a lot of money. You can drive it is exactly 3 hours for the cost of gas and a few tolls. The Cat is gone now, went somewhere in Canada. On a bad day they get 20ft waves on that little lake so I think I will just ride around instead
