This was my first bike in 71, a yellow Kaw 90 G3 SS. Not my bike pictured, but this showed up at one of our bike nights and I wasn't there!

Think I got off to a pretty good start, especially since I somehow managed to control myself enough to not wreck the thing: a '75 Kawasaki Z1. Someone had put a 16" back wheel and black LTD-style pipes on it.

My first bike, if you want to call it that, was a Honda mb5, the black one below. It was a 5 speed 50cc wonder. I bought it 2nd hand. It seemed to vibrate a lot so I took it to my dads friends house. He tightened the mounting BOLT, changed the plug, and ran some carb cleaner through it. The power scared me....so when I was done with that, I promptly went out and bought a Yamaha RZ350, not much power. COUGH
Loved it for 6 months, then got cut off by a 1972 land yacht. Layin in the hospital, dreaming of 2 stroke 500s from Canada. We are sick. There ya have it.

My first bike was a 1971 Kaw 175 Enduro. A friends older brother was selling it.
It was all repainted yellow, and had the larger rear sproket installed, no kaw emblems.
Man, I wanted it so bad!
I was 15 at the time, and only had $200.00, It was selling for $300.00. I told my friend that I didn't think I would be able to buy it. :S
Then he had an idea, I was to really talk it up big, to my dad, how great of a deal it was, and how 2 other guys were saveing to buy it too. I was also to tell my dad, that my friend and his brother were going to bring it by on saturday so I could look at it, see, I could make the last payment next week.
You bet my dad was around that saturday, so I wouldn't hurt myself some how.
Well it worked, :woohoo: My dad thought it was such a good deal, that he lent me the last $100.00 so know one else would buy it! He said: JUST DON'T TELL YOUR MOTHER! about the loan.
I wasn't to ride it untill I got my drivers license + Insurence, But, once in a while, I'd sneak it out, and zip down to Mc Donalds and back, hopeing like hell a cop wouldn't catch me. Used to bend up the last no. on the license plate so a cop couldn't read the entire #!
Only problem was, my older sister always, ALWAYS! Ratted me out!
I had it for 3yrs. and sold it for $300.00 with the carb floats broken! (have to split case to repair) That's why Yamahas were more popular.
With that one you would be driveing along, hit a bump, and the key would fall out! Finally had to start it, put the key in my pocket, kill switch to park it, retrieve key, shut off ign.!
Man... If a guy could do it all over again!

My first bike was a Penton 125 that I learned on when I was 11 with my dad. I borrowed a lot of bikes from my dad over the next 7 years or so. Then I got the Z1 pictured here in 1985. It was ugly as hell and a spray painted it every weekend a new color to throw off the cops. It never stopped running and never let me down. I don't think I even changed the oil in it the whole time I owned it.
Notice the fancy wheels. I was a parts swapper before my time. Those wheels sucked big donkey! The rear sprocket kept coming lose no matter what I did. I used lock washers, nylon nuts, and safety wire all at the same time and they still came out. Good times! :woohoo:

I owned a series of DT series dirt bikes as well as a Kaw motorcross bike and a Suzuki dirt bike before buying my first street bike. A 1969 CB450. I bought it in 1972 while it was still in its crate. It had been shipped to Okinawa where I was stationed in the military as a Govt of Japan police bike. I brought it back to the States after I got out of the service. I had to put fold up pegs on it and a different headlight as I recall. The missus and I rode all over the country on this bike as it was considered a big bike back then.
