Hey guys, im relatively new here, so ill introduce myself and the bike.

The bike is my fathjer in-laws, its a 74 Z1 900, totally mint, redone in 73 colors. It's got an 1105 kit, 10.5:1, head done by Fast by Gast, sidewinder pipe, trans done, clutch done, crank done, 36mm flat slide mikunis, 5.5" slick, 2 step, air shifter wheelie bars.

Bike is still in total street trim including chrome fenders, signals, center stand, kick starter, everything is on there.

Last year, my personal best was a 10.35 at 124mph, father in laws was a 10.63 at 121mph.

This year we added the carbs and 2 step and a fresh slick.

His best this year has been a 10.29 this past weekend at 127mph.

I havent run her yet this year, im running next weekend. He wants me to go for a 9.999 and im not sure if i can do it!?!?! I hear that 19-9 second jump is damn hard to make on a 5.5" slick.

He's gonna strip it down of the signals, fenders, centerstand, lights, anything he can. I've already got 60lbs less on him, he's 220, im 160.

SO do you guys think its possible? Lets hear your opinions!

depending on what part of the country youre in low-mid 10s is pretty respectable for a small motored bike, thats right around what busas with some suspension work and some motor tweaking are running around these parts.just remember the only guy you need to scare the hell out of is yourself, the rev limiter you sit on will dictate how fast you can go!

I think 9's might just be out of your reach. It's got to drive you crazy being that close. Just don't eat anything this week and all the other stuff taken off you might get there. Make sure to let us know how you do. I'm still stuck in the low 13 range with my 78. I think I'm running a little lean so I'm going to fatten it up and try the coil mod. Maybe I'll be in the 12's. We only have two more weeks of racing so I need to hurry up. B)

Woops just re read the post. If he ran 10.29 and has that much weight on you, you should be there. If you get a perfect run you could be at 9.90. Good luck!

ya we run out in Gimli, ive heard the whole 20lbs equals a tenth, but my only concern is gonna be traction.

i guess if all goes just right i should be able to break into the nines but i guess i'll see!!

Well we're prepped for the next weekend, we've stripped down the bike a bit and weighed the parts.

We took off the signals, front fender, gauges, kick starteer, horn, grab bar, rear fender, rear pegs, headlight, brake light, we weighed it all and we took off 25.2lbs. We still need to pull the centerstand, thats gotta be a few lbs as well.

so with about 30lbs shaved off the bike and my 60lbs less weight then the father in law, i really hope we can hit the 9's!!!!!!! he also went an bought a couple gallons of 110 octane fuel to run, so our only issue to worry bout now will be traction!

also, should we throw a fresh slick on or keep the one thats on now? the one thats on now has 2 seasons on it, not worn yet but getting there.

does it still look like a bike? problem with taking all the stuff off the front of bike is the smaller stuff like a headlight and gauges would tend to brake up the wind a little now its basically hitting you full bore which is not really aerodynamic.front fender would also help direct the wind away from the big ol chunk of motor behind it also ;) im no nasa engine, just some personal experiance for what its worth.

well the headlight housing is still there, just replaced the glass wit ha thin piece of aluminum, as for the gauges and stuff, i dont see it causing us too many issues as far as aerodynamics.

we made a final weigh with all the odds and ends off and we saved 38.4lbs!

the heaviest piece was the seat weighing in at 10lbs, we replaced that with a thin aluminum base with a thin foam padding( gotta have sum comfort haha)

Remember, fuel weights 7 lbs per gallon, so don't "filler up".

Somwhere I read for drag racing you want the front end strapped(so it doesn't rebound), and the back end soft on the "bump"(so it can squat).

You have any pictures of this, or video of your runs? Would love to hear it scream down the 1/4 mile(0.402 kilometers), and I bet I'm not the only one. B)

9.94 @ 128.97MPH!!

Well the 9's are definantly there, i was only able to make 3 passes though today due to a lost brake resevoir cap.

I had one a t home but was too far to go get it to make the day worth it.

So tomorow i will spend the whole day on the bike and hopefully get her running her best times yet!
