I read through it a few times before I realized there was a wife and daughter in the story. Sounded to me like the story of a man and a bike.
I faced something similar last week, only it was intentional on my part. I look on craigslist constantly...both for good deals in broken electronics to fix and resell for profit but I admit I spend a liiiiittle time looking at the motorcycle section. It usually ends up with my showing my counterpart a post and declaring "I want this"...to which she'd respond, "then you should get it...whatever you want, sweetie."
Manipulative, I tell you, because she knows I'd never do it. I'm too cheap. So last week I took her to the next level and before I shipped her off to school for the day, I told her I wanted a new Triumph Bonneville. As usual, she looked at me and said "Whatever you want".
In the evening when I picked her up, I put on my great big beaming smile and when she asked why I was so happy, I told her I went to the Triumph dealership and bought one, it'll be ready next Wednesday!!!
She was ... irritated, to say the least. Even more so when I said I admitted I just wanted to see how she'd really react.
I must say, I am VERY lucky! Mary likes the 650 almost more than I do and constantly wants me to take her out on it (I typically oblige). Anyhow, if I pulled this trick on her she would be pissed because I had NOT really bought the Triumph!

Send me the name and phone number of that dealer. My wife still doesn't have her visa yet and by the time she gets here and learns enough english to cuss me out I'll have it totally restored.
You'll probably notice Gringo that I purposely left out detailed information about where the dealer was...not that I don't trust you guys .
Of course several on the board do know where my daughter goes to school, but I figured I won't make it too easy. To be honest, I wouldn't mind too much if someone ended up saving it. It kills me to see a kz900 being abused like that. I haven't given up hope yet...it's just barely beyond the realm of possibility.

It's partly money, but it's also that she knows bikes are dangerous. I don't think she'd squawk if I was collecting Les Paul guitars, or rare stamps.
