I know and have pictures of one right now- the 1972, in perfect survivor condition, 2 owner- the first owner being the current owners dad- the current owner owned the local kawi dealership in the 70s, and bought the bike for his dad. It is documented and correct.

Hey jeff- does that make four for ya?

Not sure - the key to it is the VIN number and some of the components. The pre-production bikes have a ton of different parts on them. I know the folks you are talking about, but I've not seen pictures of the bike.

Greg W in the USA owns one, there's one in Germany, then a partial one in Norway.

I have been slowly port matching a set of KZ1000 heads I want to take over to squeek's place for a second opinion- I will ask him next time when I go there

The vetter monstrosity has flat hard bags. The KZ1000 from Lincoln didn't... has the wedge shape and very ugle hard bags as I recall.

I'm in total agreement with you guys with most of Vetter's stuff as being fugly BUT I did like the Triumph triple he helped with, the "Hurricane". You do have to take in consideration of the time frame involved here.

Triumph with BSA engine.

I always thought the pipes were a bit Buck Rodgers, but I must agree with you, the styling on the X75(?) (1200 produced) was appealing.:)

Style is, of course, subjective and seems to be determined by an individual from, among other things, the timeframe in which one's formative years were spent. Motorcycle style for me comes from the late '70s and early '80s. Of heavy influence on me were the Vetter fairings a hard bags that seemed to be everywhere. As far as I'm concerned, the following Vetter combination beats anything that came out of Milwaukee before or since.

To me the Goldwing borrowed heavily from those lines for years. Kawasaki used those same items from Vetter and branded as Kawasaki for the touring version of the later KZ1300 as I recall. I still like the look.

1978 KZ1000 Spirit of America

Kawasaki personalized 200 KZ1000's for their dealers to ride in convoy from their manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska, to a reception in St. Louis, Missouri, and then to their respective dealerships. The theme of the ride, "The Americanization of Kawasaki" was to focus on that they were on the only Japanese motorcycle company with an operating facility in the US at this time. Special decals and equipment were installed by the accessory supplier, Vetter, to Kawasaki's specifications.
