Found an '82 KZ1000 J2 was created by kawisteve
Hi. I posted this same message on another forum, but this is the one I was looking for! I haven't been here for a long time, but here goes.
Fairly new to this stuff, but have had Kawi's for years. I currently have around 10 bikes crowding my garage, Uncle's storage unit, and workplace. Of course my favorite is my '77 KZ1000 A1. I will never be tired of that one and could never give it up.

Now to my question, and as I said, I am fairly new to this, so if I am in the wrong area than please let me know. I work at a small Cycle Shop in Salt Lake (My Uncle's Place). We handle a lot of repairs in the area as the dealers won't touch anything once it hits that 10 year mark, as I'm sure most of you know. We also do a ton of Ebay sales.
The other day we received a call from a Lady in a neighboring town asking if we were interested in a KZ1000. Her husband had passed away and had a few bikes that she wanted to get rid of. I know, the dream story right? This is true. Long story short she had a 1982 KZ1000 J2 which has 22, yes, that's right 22 original miles on it. It was stored inside, but was covered in about an inch of dust.
We are going to sell the bike, but my question is, should we fix any problems it has, or just sell it the way it sits, as 22 original miles is not to be seen everyday. I do not want to take up a bunch of everyones time, and I have rattled on here quite a bit, but please let me know what you think. Thanks.

The right person would be happy to have it as is and then do the work themself. The trick is finding that person and this site is probably a good start.

I'd say keep it for yourself, but you look to have a garage full already. :D

BTW, welcome aboard and I've been to your fine city many times (seven or eight) over the years. I was last there in October for a week at Salt Lake Community College.

I would love to keep this bike myself, but it does belong to my Uncle, and my wife has grown more than tired of my "projects".

I also though that it should be left alone. It is hard to put a price on something like this, and we do a very large Ebay business out of the same shop, so it will undoubtedly end up on there. The problems it has are minor (to me), Fork Seals, possible tank kreem, go through the carbs, besides the fact that it hasn't been run in, I am guessing of course, 26 years, so possible seal problems. Really is a beautiful bike though. Normally we rip bikes into little pieces and offer them worlwide (shudder), but that is not going to happen to this one.

I wanna see the pics of this !!! It would be nice if it had the Euro-tank on it rather than the bulgy North American tank. Salt Lake's not THAT far from Cowtown.....:cheer:

Yeah Tim, that would be right up your alley, you've been on the hunt for a nice standard bike for a while now. Doesn't sound like you will find one much nicer and Salt Lake isn't that far from So. Cal. Go for it!!

I need pictures too. It doesn't make sense anyone would buy a motorcycle, then let it sit 26 yrs with 22 miles on it. If he was a collector, he would have not had gas in the tank or carbs and had it covered at least.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
