Project Hunk-a-poo...aka: CB9/11F was created by Bad Kaw
So, this is a two-part post.
First part: I need to see if I can get pics to post and tell a tiny bit of the story of one of my non-Kawasaki projects.
Second part: help out another KZR member in posting...we'll see how my 'old school' skills are, eh? ;)

This first one should just be a side-shot of the bike.

Okay, looks like they posted fine...even on 'dial-up' :) Man, I'm old-school!
Plans are typical for me: beefy suspenders and wheels; but a simple, stock, piped and carbed CB1100F motor: ride. We'll see, eh?

PS> Problem is my Kaws come first, and I've got at least two on deck in front of this thing...ah well.

Hey, thanks!
No, I have minimal welding skills; and more importantly I have access to 2 welding gurus, so if I went with me, when I have access to them, I would solidify my place in the 'Dumb-ass Hall of Fame'. I've done the 'flush filler' cap weld-on to three bikes now and it is amazing how it makes the bike look right now as opposed to a warmed-over old sled...then combine current suspension and it really completes the 'trifecta'.

Yeah, I'm absolutely a green-blooded Kawasaki guy; but I have a real weakness for late '70s / early '80s old-school Superbikes. I have some plans for the CB, but nothing extreme...the 'F' motors are not nearly as reliable as the Kawasaki (or Suzuki) roller-bearing crank-shaft motors, so I'd just like to have a healthy 1100F motor, make it look like a Freddy Spencer race bike, and put decent suspension on it. The CBs are a tall bike that have never felt 'right' to me...but I figured that'd make a good two-up-rider, that I wouldn't be tempted to push, ya know?...the wife would probably appreciate that.

I'd like to see your buddy's KZ if you ever get the chance to post up pics. Sounds like a real nice project; I put conventional gixxer suspension on my GS1150ES and I'm getting ready to see how much difference that's going to make.

I share your affliction. I did my mine a few years back..It's an 81 CB900F/SS

Good luck with yours and i hope it turns out the way ya want her too. As for a tall bike, yes they are. However, my corbin brought me back down to earth.Good thing too cause the bike was way too tall for me when i got it.

Breeze,
BEAUTIFUL bike! Congrats on that one!
I've got this obsession with putting late-model suspension on old-school Superbikes (like the CBs). So, there is suspension off a TL1000S setting on a shelf waiting to see if the GS1150ES is going to get it, or the CB. My GS is a wheel spacer, brake line, and a battery away from going *vroom*, after I put it thru my paces, we'll see if it's a keeper or eBay-bait. If it stays, it'll get the TL suspenders; if not the CB will get 'em and then I'll find a different set for the CB.
As a kid I was never impressed with the CBs, my Kawasaki would whip them all, and the ones that I rode really threw me off...didn't like 'em.
THEN: I was in college and this high school kid with an old 'CB750 sohc' would hang around me and the group of bike riders that I rode with. He was a cool kid and we all liked him, except my roommate with his fast-ass 83 GS1100...and he'd flip him a little crap from time-to-time. (I tollerated my roommate b/c his sister and I were ... 'associated' ... ;) ). One day the kid sold his 'sohc' and bought a CB900 off a G.I.; I used to destroy that CB. Well, the kid made friends with Trig Wesby from Oklahoma and the next summer the kid whipped out his CB900F, walked up to my roommate and in no-uncertain terms, told him that he was going to beat his GS. My roommie was shocked...we lined 'em up...my roommie got the launch, and that CB powered around that GS, the kid was crawling up on the tank fighting to keep the front end down. It was fantastic. After my pissed-off roommie went away me and the kid hung out and I got to inspect the bike. There was an HRC stamp on the head(!) an oil cooler that wasn't there before, and a couple other little odd things, like funny colored gaskets squeezing out of the base and head. He 'fessed-up in a heart-beat and said that he got it all from Trig (with love!) and it was a 1060cc kit with gas-ported pistons and lots of stuff that eludes my tiny brain these days...but it was a bad-ass bike; and that mechanic-kid was a rider to boot.
BTW: guess who's building my CB1100F motor?:cheer: ...the kid! Well, the kid is like 37 these days...but he's a kid to me. By the way, once in a while you'll see him around here..."Blitzkraig" is the name...he's a ZRX guy now (amongst the rest of his collection of CBs, VFs, and the only CB1100F motored Harris in the US:ohmy: ...it's cool!)

...hey man, this was like a really long story, eh?...my bad.

About 20 years ago I came across a gray market import CB1100F that'd been breathed on pretty heavily. I managed to wrangle a test ride and realized immediately that it was WAY faster than the Seca Turbo I was thrashing at the time.

It sold before I could get back there with the money, alas... which is probably why I'm alive to lament it today!
