Is this a snow machine in the making or what? You are crazy!
I plan on riding, snow or shine, all the rest of this winter.
I plan on making a ride up to Prudhoe bay in January, possibly filming it. Nothing like riding above the arctic circle, on a motorcycle, in January, in a blizzard and below 0 weather is there? :laugh:

Right now, I am trying to figure out how fast the studs get tossed out on dry pavement. I am hoping over 1k miles, as that is about the length of my trip. I hope to do it around 40 hours, with an 8 hour layover in deadhorse.

Are you changing the front tire? What about heated parts like hand grips, foot warmers, etc...?

I grew up playing in this stuff- it kinda is still odd to me that you guys consider this , um, crazy- I used to ride my dirt bike all winter, unbeknownst to my ma- who certainly did not approve!
I have done over 1000 miles on snowmachine, no biggie. I have jumped out of airplanes in under -70f, no biggie there either- not to mention skiing and stuff.
So, the hardest to keep warm, and unique to bikes- is the toes and fingers- snowmachine or "bunny" boots aren't very good for shifting and braking, because they are so awkward. And your fingers hang out there in the open, so I have heated socks, gloves, pants and jacket.
I will post pics when I have the bike all finished, both tires studded etc. I used an metzler in the rear, Maxxis in the front- still waiting on that in the mail.

Tell us about how studs feel on snow and ice. Are they predictable?
Have you seen those spin in studs?

You can get snowmobile studs for that tire ya know. Sled shops have them readily available to screw right
in with a screw gun.
They will last longer and give better traction on the ice.
You might lose a few here and there on the asphalt, but they work great.
I'm from Minnesota where we don't have as many cold days as you, but I would think about trying that...for about 30 seconds:pinch:

You know- every single winter rider up here will tell you- it actually feels better than riding in dirt. The car studs work best for what we do, for the most part- there is a considerable amount of dry pavement riding here, and the car studs work best, though they are still pretty slick on pavement.
You guys are pretty interested, I will try to post vids when it is possible to do so.
