when i read a post like this one i can't help but think there is a BIG misunderstanding of turbo'd bikes here,im sure with the constant bad mouthing from a certain member here any/every time some one post about a turbo'd Z1R that does'nt help,i would really like to clear up a few things about turbo'd kaws, first off i own more than one of them now and have for about the last 18yrs,when fitted with new updated parts such as a NEW mikuni flatslide carb,Dyna 2000 ignition,Holly fuel pump and fuel REGULATOR,these bike can and will perform beautifully on the STREET or TRACK, they get just about the same gas milage as a stock bike, they idle like a stock bike, when RIDDEN by some one who KNOWS HOW to RIDE a HIGH PERFORMANCE bike they have slight to NONE turbo LAG and can OUT PERFORM most any non turbo bike they run agaist,to constantly bad mouth these incredible bikes based on riding one sum 20 or so years ago is just being ignorant and giving people miss leading info, everyone here should try speaking to people that are living in the present like jeff saunders, sclem,Lorcan to name a few, ask these guys about turbo'd kaws today like myself they ride/build them now not 25yrs ago, alot of new technology has been invented in 25yrs sum guys just dont bother to learn it.

If you're referring to me, it wasn't 20 yrs ago I owned mine, it was 7 yrs ago, although I did do a turbo on a KZ650 25 yrs ago. Both were same outcome. Left the turbo on the KZ650 for about 100 miles. Fought that Z1R-TC for a few years, managed probably 100 agonizing miles on that POS. Turbo does not work for gas engines unless it was fitted from the factory. The GPZ750 turbo was fantastic and I love my big diesel turbos, but never again aftermarket turbo on a street bike.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

yes i was refering to you RONKZ650,if you had so much trouble with your turbo bike's maybe you or your mechanic should seek help from others with better turbo experience,as far as turbo's not working on gas engines unless installed by the factory that is simply a really stupid thing to say,if left to people like you no one should/would ride anything that was not painted/built on sum assembly line yea thats real good thinking, i guess the MRturbo company and all thier customers are wrong and riding bikes that run like crap lol, stick to stock ron sounds like that's about your speed, leave the aftermarket world to the rest of us with sum imagination/heart to forge ahead.

I thought it was familiar. It's a beatiful bike, nicely modified. He wants some serious dough, but for the right rider, seems worth it.
Personally, I'd be scared to ride a turbo'd KZ1000. The bike goes like a scalded dog without a turbo, and I'm too old for astronaut training.

Part of the problem could be everything is made for sea level usage. Living in Denver none of this stuff works without major fiddling. I fiddled until I was blue in the face with both of mine. The KZ650 took probably 5 seconds or more of turbo lag before any power could be used even if you reved the engine up to 9000 rpms trying to get the turbo spinning. The Z1R no matter how great it ran, I could turn it off, start it up again a week later and it would run like crap. (fouled plugs). Neither one would even get close to idling in traffic and on hot days forget it completely. That's my experience with them anyway up here in Denver. Other people probably have great luck with them. Probably more patient than me. If something does not work for me, I consider it trash. I'm not going to waste hours, weeks and months trying to make stuff work that is advertised as bolt on. This motorcycle in the auction looks really neat I'll say that. Start it up and will it run smoothly and idle smoothly? Be able to be ridden the way a motorcycle is meant to be used, for getting from A to B? I doubt.

"the way motorcycles are MEANT to be USED,getting from point A to point B" is that really why you ride? ugh!
man i feel sorry for you,i cant speak for the bike in the auction but i can speak on behalf of my OWN turbo bikes yes they idle like a stock bike and run extremely smooth and consistant on the street or track, considering sum thing that does not work for you within a couple of hrs trash shows your mechanical ability/patients is low, guess its a good thing that you got rid of your turbo bikes you would probally hurt yourself or others, like i said stick to stock this way its alot easier/safer for you

Ewwww, that eBay bike looks like a very well done example.

Turbos: I've had both factory and modified and I have to chime in with 'fastestZ1' and say that if you have patience the aftermarket turbo can be as good (or better!) than factory stockers. Also, took a trip on the turbo from Kansas (1000ft above sea level) to Steamboat Springs and went thru Colorado Springs and the problem I developed was dealing with the envy of my buddies as the turbo seemed to run better (I'm sure it was a mis-perception due to their bikes' performance) out there in the cool air. Like I said, probably just b/c my bike was injected and their bikes were suffering from 'altitude sickness' but the turbo was the bike of choice. ...just my 2 pennies.
