Mick
Now we know what Kawasaki did with all their leftover KZ900 exhaust systems. No wonder they now get $1500.00 per set.

That's exactly what I was thinking! Looks like they had chrome mirrors, also; amongst the other differences.
That is a big-ass gas tank, but still ... I can't help but like it. It'd make for a cool 'spare'; if one could be had reasonably.

Thanks for posting those pics! I really appreciate it! The Z1-R is definately a cult-bike and I guess I'm one of those guys; they're just a wicked-cool bike, and the little Euro (and Auzzie) differences are very interesting to me.
When I'm done "de-purifying" mine I'll post some pics.

Aussie Z1R 11 models ('80) came in black with the 22 litre tank standard, I am pretty sure we also got the slightly longer indicator/turn signal stalks.
Cheers

Hey Tony, are you sure that it was the 22 and not the 18 liter gas tank? I never heard about that the 22 liter tank was sold outside Germany and UK.
And yes the shorter indikator are only in the US.
Here is another version of the Z1R.
Z2R only sold in France. The importer changed the 18 inch to a 19" front wheel and used better shocks.
So Kawasaki told him that he has to rename the bike and must use other decals.
