This winter I'm swapping over to GSXR750 forks, ZX wheels, 120 and 170 Pirelli Dragons, 310mm rotors, 6 piston calipers, remote reservoir mc and electronc instruments. I'm waiting for a few parts to show up in the mail and I can get started. I took the plunge and sold the stock front end and wheels so there's no turning back. Links from here and the posts and how tos on Lorcan's site give plenty of info for suspension swaps. I will also be converting to 530 chain at the same time.
I need to change a few engine gaskets/seals, new exhaust crush washers, have the pipe sandblasted, repainted and wrapped.
The engine's been on the road for the last 2 years in its present incarnation.
'83 GPz - 1170cc, 10.25:1, 36mm flatslides, Hindle header, cromoly studs, welded crank, undercut transmission and Barnett clutch, on 100% synthetic oil.
Trying to decide exactly what I want to do for rear suspension. I am keeping the stock swingarm, anything else looks like it will lengthen the wheelbase even more. GSXR shocks are supposed to be an easy swap so that's something to look into.
One big advantage of the suspension/wheel swap is the dramatic weight reduction, especially unsprung weight.
Pics when it's together, hopefully for the spring!

Hi Fossil, Sounds like a good project, I've done similar mods to a Katana 1000 and when looking into doing the same to my Z1000J found that the first model ZZR1100 used a 17 tooth 530 gearbox sprocket with the same spline and a lot of offset which should clear a 170 tire.

Russ, thanks for the tip on the ZZR1100 sprocket. If I got stuck, I was going to weld a new sprocket onto my 630 spline core to get a 530 offset sprocket.

fossil I have completed many of the mods you are considering 10years of trial and error lots of fun I used a zx1200 sprocket bolts right on not offset though,I machined the GSRX wheel to get the chain alignment correct. 170 tire is the largest you can fit in the stock swing arm I only have 3/16 clearance on my chain but its been fine for 5000+ kms GOOD LUCK with your project I will been looking for updates TOM

No, just the stock GPz cam - I'm very happy with the power it's putting out and the throttle response as is. I don't plan anymore engine mods, maybe ignition, but not right now. The engine has been on the road like this for 2 years and now it is time for the suspension upgrades. Next year will be paint and powder coat. Pics eventually. Getting a slow start here - gutted and renovated the front room just before Christmas, then Christmas, etc...I'm just really getting to it now.
