78 KZ 750 Twin
23 Feb 2026 13:37 - 24 Feb 2026 05:13
Bought this bike last summer. Only has 10,000m miles, all original, included original toolkit and owners manual. One of my customers told me his neighbor was selling a bike, wasn't sure what it was. Having owned an H2 and several Z1s, as soon as the guy opened the garage door knew it was gonna be mine. PO said he couldn't keep it running because of the carbs, parked it many years ago. Never owned a twin, but when I saw this I had to have it. Had that classic KZ style.
First thing was to get it running, and running reliably. After so many years that was a bit of journey in itself, but it now runs great. Lot of work, but really happy with it.
Next step is to make it pretty. Because it's totally unmolested I want to keep it as original as possible. Biggest hurdle will be the exhaust. Not only do I want to keep it original I really like the looks of the factory exhaust. I may put a header on it temporarily while sorting this out.
This forum has taught me so much, it is so appreciated. I have lots more questions, and any time someone helps me they could be helping someone else working on a twin. Anything I learn along the way I will certainly pass on.

Nice find!
Plenty of knowledge and experience here on KZR. Don't be afraid to ask
Even though you're not a KZ newbie, You may find some usable advice in Nessism's post "New Owner things to know".

Even though it was garage kept I knew it had sat for years. So first thing I did was pull the points cover to manually rotate the engine. Everything felt nice and smooth so moved on to changing oil and filter. Surprise! My first hurdle. Couldn't find that crazy 8 o-ring for the filter anywhere. Took a while but finally located an NOS o-ring in England. Then the whole tariff nuttiness started and the ending of de minimis. England said it would stop all envelope mail to the states. Fortunately mine had already shipped, but it did spend 3 weeks in a customs warehouse. Boy was I happy when it finally showed up.

Use the search button then enter "new owner things to know " and enter "nessism" in the username slot. Go to the bottom of the page and hit search. It should come up that way.

Interesting little side story. I live on a twisty 2 lane road that cuts through Ocala National Forest here in central Florida. Every weekend, all weekend, it's a favorite for bikers. Harley guys, sport bikes, a few adventure bike types. A month ago a Harley bagger pulled over right in front of my house. Turned out he had a flat rear tire. Tried airing it up, he'd already tried fix a flat trying to get home. Turned out it wasn't a puncture but a slit cut in his brand new tire he'd just put on.
I had some 2x4's from a home project and we cobbled up a quick ramp and got the bike loaded in the back of my wife's truck. I took him and his bike home to New Smyrna Beach, bit over an hour and a half away.
Neat thing was his buddy saw my bike. Turns out he has same year but LTD. He's had it for decades, sold it to his brother. Been sitting in a garage for years. Bother was selling his house wanted to know if he wanted it back. So my new friend hooked up a trailer and drove to Boston to bring it back. Just got back with it, hasn't had a chance to do anything with it yet.
What are the odds he breaks down in front of my house?
