As the time approaches to "dis-assemble" I have been pondering how best to remove and re-fit the motor singlehandedly without hurting it or me (or fresh powder coat) and with minimal grunting and straining (I am 60 now  ) I have come up with what I hope is the answer to remove the motor with the bike bolted down to the lift and transport it to my engine stand (which I will convert to a rotisserie) In essence it will be a "screw jack" that will work in conjunction with my lift and engine stand - early doors yet put below is my progress so far

Rob that is a much easier solution, however I am tight for space to manoeuvre and also don't have an engine hoist. You can rent them here in the UK but by the time I pay rental twice plus delivery and collection charges twice (I don't have a van or truck) there will be little difference in cost. I also don't have a main stand and I don't think a "paddock stand" would be secure enough. My rig will disassemble when not in use for storage and once I have finished it I am hopeful it will last for the rest of my lifetime only requireing different brackets for different bikes (don't tell Mrs Wookie but I do plan future projects  )

Your damper mounting position is the same as mine Guy, using the cooler mounts as the fitting spot, much more discreet than the girder out the side early style.

Managed to get sometime in the garage this week so I have finished up my "motor extraction device"   (I will worry about painting it once I know it works correctly) I have load tested it (by sitting on the lifting bar and raising it as I wheigh about the same as the motor) maybe I should put a ticker on it SWL= >1FB (safe working load = greater than 1 fat bastard)   the plate that bolts to the engine is bolted to the carrier so when it comes to using it for a different motor in a different bike I would only need to make a new flat plate (less than $10) I have also used needle rollers so the screw doesn't "snag" - when not in use it will break down and fit under my bench.

Nice work! Pretty sure the safe working load should be equal to or less than one fat bastard though ;)

After another busy day the "rotisserie" conversion on my engine stand is done (just need to make a couple of brackets)

Have had a great couple of days on this, last night I got the bike turned around on the lift so the "right" side was clear of the lift post. My lifting device (whilst it's probably a bit OTT) worked like a dream to extract the motor and drop it into the rotisserie. The most strenuous part was doing up the bolts so it did as intended by avoiding any damage to me or the bike
