1978 Z1000 Barn Basket Case. was created by kzstreetfighter71
Today i picked up a real barn basket bundle , literally in a leaking chicken shed for the last 7 years and probably in a crash before that. A full bike but a few interesting parts thrown in for the Price. The bike is an original U.K "Zed" 1000 with numbers stamped on the right of the neck and Japan built. Im still going through the bundle of near rotten parts but here is a few to start off with.

I would have loved to keep the frame 100% intact but the nearside exhaust/passenger hanger is toast from what i can see. Has anyone had any success restoring a rusted out part like this?

If anyone wants to throw any eye on some of these parts to clarify what years and models they are from i would be real grateful. Im fairly sure the aluminium 3.50 rear rim is off a Kz1000 Csr.. and the original 19" wheel is there but the second wheel has twin disk and the forks have twin caliper mounts and are 75.5cm from the axle canter to the top of the fork.

This seat came in the pile, the pan is fiberglass  and the one hinge lines up with the frame but the second is missing, anyone see a seat style like this before? im only asking because i like the shape and size and would like yo track down a cover.

The first set of carbs look to be 26 mm Mikuni's from 1977 or 1978.  The second set are late Z1A and Z1B style of 28 mm Mikunis.  Look to be in poor condition.  The third set I would guess are spares for the first set.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Thats what i was hoping that the first set were the original carbs and the second set are indeed 1975 z1b, i have a set all ready on my Z1. There are in the process of being fully brought back to life, i all ready had a rebuild kit and  i own an ultrasonic but they fairly pitted oxidised and rusted. Ill post pics of the result tomorrow.

This is how far i got with them today.

Its probably an aftermarket item someone laced up for racing. DID was (and still is) a vendor to the big manufacturers but they also sold rims through dealers to the public. The CSR front would not be bad choice as the rim design is close and the spoke count isn't too noticeable, the biggest difference to me visually is the chunky rim lip on the CSR rim and the aftermarket rim has a deep drop center. also CSR rim is non dimpled.

Excell rims will look very close to your aftermarket rim but $$$

On the money as always Doc and that’s the look I’m going for, I’ll see if I can budget for Z1r drilled rotor disks for the front, the fork rotor mounts should be good for the Z1r disks right?

The only difference between the KZ1000 LTD and Z1R rotors is the holes. The Z1R disks go for stupid money. You can get the LTD rotors and have them drilled

Or EBC makes some nice aftermarket rotors for not too much
