Can’t find brakes or clutches was created by Curtismty
Hello everyone, I recently picked up a 1982 gpz550 as my first bike and couldn’t wait to get it home to start fiddling with it. First of all, I bought it cause it was a steal and have always had an itch for Kawasaki’s. Second, it’s in phenomenal shape for the $1400. So this is my headache about it; i can’t find brake rotors or clutch kits. Where do you guys recommend I look for so? Sorry if this has been asked before I’m just sick of typing the same thing into google and don’t find squat

Brake rotors can be resurfaced

Check Partzilla and find the part numbers for the clutch parts you need. Then searching is more accurate and easier.

Are you sure the clutch pack need replacing? They are surprisingly durable.

I doubt your clutch is worn below the limit. As long as it's not damaged, I would use the factory disks. They are better than any aftermarket clutches. When they are brand new, they are already near the limit, but never below. I have yet to see factory disks below the limit for a 550.

You probably need new springs, though. Those I do see below the pressure limit in the manual.

Also, be aware, if the oil level is topped right up to the upper mark, or above it, the clutch will tend to slip. Even after draining a bit of oil, it might take a few miles to get rid of the slippage. They are a wet clutch, but are not meant to run in an oil bath.

and of course, only use motorcycle specific oil for wet clutches.
