Bikes on its 5th summer of riding around.  Have an oil leak to chase on the left side of the engine, not sure if its the base gasket or the valve cover; hard to tell when oil blows all over when riding.  Going to pull the engine over Thanksgiving weekend and see what i can determine.  Last time i thought i remember a slight crack in the valve cover that i tried RTV but possibly opened back up.  Not sure how easily it can be repaired or replaced, if anybody has a chrome valve cover in good shape they'd like to let go of.

Might be the tachometer drive.

It seems too far to the left side for the tach drive to be the source.  The oil pools right above the stator cover at the base gasket.  I will add that to the list of possible sources though.

Got a chance to look over the bike this past weekend; the base gasket is not the culprit as the oil is running down the cylinders.  The valve cover is cracked on that side and as mentioned by  TexasKZ , the tach cable does have a small leak. Going to replace the valve cover, valve cover gasket and the tach cable seals/gaskets.

Keep in mind that the tach drive has a gasket, oil seal and an oring.
